Next up for us in Jackson: an Ed's Burger Joint with a rooftop bar. Reopening the historic Capri Theatre with reclining seats, full bar, & a food menu. We're also opening a 10-lane bowling alley, a full-service restaurant/bar, and a tiki bar. Be on the lookout in the fall of 2020
Fake news. I am a little familiar with Mississippians and their food habits and traditions, and I can say— without hesitation— I have never seen anyone eat “green beans with beef broth” EVER, much less while watching the Super Bowl.
A mom just took a crying baby out of the dining room at the restaurant. The dad stayed and paid the tab. On the way out I pulled him aside and said, “you might not believe me now, but there is a day when you’re going to miss that sound.”

Great news. The Capri in Fondren will show the MSU-Arizona game on the big screen with high def and Dolby 7.1 sound. FREE! Dawg fans will be able to sit in recliners & order cocktails, beer, & food, from their seat & watch the Dawgs on the largest screen this side of Davis Wade.
Construction in Fondren is in full swing. The Capri theatre will have reclining seats, a full bar, and apps. Highball Lanes will have 10 lanes, & a restaurant and bar. The Pearl is a tiki bar. And Ed’s Burger Joint will have a rooftop bar. We are fired up. Look for us this fall.
Last night. Last table. Last meal.
Thanks to all of the managers and crew who pulled off these amazing dinners these past seven nights.

My advice to young people: Trust God, be kind, love your family, laugh a lot, don't compare your insides to other people's outsides, never confuse pleasure with happiness, don't hate, and take care of your feet and teeth. Meeting adjourned.
Some would think that closing a restaurant one has owned for over 32 years would be grounds for despair and depression. Not so. Not even close. Today I am thankful for all of the people I have worked with, and all of the people we have served.

Exactly four years ago today we transformed this old bank into Ed’s Burger Joint. Hardy Street in Hattiesburg got a little more appealing and eating burgers, tots, & shakes became a lot more fun. HAPPY FOURTH BIRTHDAY, ED’S! Fondren here we come

On May 25, 1983, I quit drinking. I was 21-years old and I had resigned myself that I wasn’t going to live to see 30. Sadly, I was ok with that. The truth is— at the rate I was going, the lifestyle I was living, and the decisions I was making— I probably wouldn’t have seen 25.
I have just learned from The Clarion Ledger that they have decided to stop publishing my column. No surprise here, and no hard feelings. It's the nature of the news biz today.
GO TO AND CLICK "SUBSCRIBE." I'LL EMAIL YOU THE COLUMN EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING.
Hate if you want, but I’m just gonna put this out there: i am a hardcore iced tea drinker, but McDonald’s fountain Cokes are the best Cokes in the Coke world. Period. End of story.
Excited to announce the newest concept coming to the NSRG family of restaurants! El Rayo will offer real-deal, authentic Tex Mex. I've been working with some of America’s top Tex Mex chefs/restaurateurs & the menu that we've created is outstanding & unlike anything I’ve ever done
BIG NEWS! You asked us to open for supper, and we listened. Beginning Monday, March 2nd, The Midtowner will be open for Real Southern Supper seven nights a week!
The Midtowner, real breakfast, real lunch, and now real southern supper!
The older I get, the better equipped I become @ not feeding into the world's fake drama and manufactured BS. It's made for a much happier & joy-filled life. I wish I could have done it decades ago. Progress, not perfection. Today's priorities: faith, family, friends, food, & fun
On one hand, I'm thinking "Damn, we're halfway through 2020." And on the other hand, I'm thinking, "Damn, we've got six more months of this shit."

We will be showing the MSU vs LSU game on the big screen in the Capri on Saturday night. FREE!

This entire project has been one of the coolest, most rewarding, undertakings I have had the pleasure to be a part of. Can’t wait until y’all see what we’ve done in Fondren. Even more to come.

Question: Can you really call yourself a “True Southerner” if you’ve never seen two women fist fighting in a Waffle House at 2am on a Saturday morning while Travis Tritt was blaring from the jukebox?
Almost 60% of all American rivers dump into the Mississippi. The next time you’re in New Orleans watching the river run, know that some of that water rushing by, headed for the Mississippi Sound and Gulf, originated in rivers and creeks from New York to Montana
One year ago today I let my idiot son shame me into riding a zip line 500 feet in the air. NO SHOULDER HARNESS, just a fabric seatbelt around our waists. As we left the roof they told us the weight limit (we were 15 lbs over, but too late to stop).

True statement: I just finished a 5,000+ mile, 13-state, two-week trip out west and I never had a better breakfast than the one I eat at 7am every morning back home.

I appreciate that the designer asked himself this question: "What could've been from the start? Given this task at statehood, what could a designer have created for Mississippi that would still be flying today?"

Comeback sauce is a Mississippi staple that came from Greek restaurateurs who paved the way for the restaurant industry in my home state.

I am proud to serve on the board of Special Olympics of MS. I invited three of our athletes who qualified for nationals in bowling to come in and bowl a few practice games before we open today. Thanks for helping us break in the lanes Jason Smith, Craig Foshee, and Mia Stewart!
32 years ago today we opened the Purple Parrot. Dean Owens and I were the original partners. Patti Roebuck and John David Williams were the managers. It’s been a great run, and a true joy to own & operate this restaurant in Midtown Hattiesburg. We look forward to 32 more years.
The tunnel inMobile baffles me. Two lanes of traffic come to a standstill going in the tunnel. It’s two lanes of traffic just like on the bridge but people slow down. JUST DRIVE THROUGH THE TUNNEL AT REGULAR SPEED! There’s nothing different, just a little more concrete.
If you are a local business owner— whether you attended USM or not— I encourage you to join the To The Top Collective. Southern Miss is the anchor of entertainment, commerce, and culture in our community and it’s crucial that we keep our university healthy. Anything helps. Follow
Everyone's arguing politics and I'm over here trying to figure out how much time my friends who text me the letter "k" as a shortcut for "ok" are saving by dropping that "o."
Feeling grateful for this honor, surely. But feeling most grateful for those who I share it with and those who made it possible— the management teams and co-workers at the New South Restaurant Group family of restaurants, my family, my friends, and my alma mater.
@USMDrB
Sadly, Hattiesburg lost another restaurant icon today, Richard Ward.
He, and his brother Ed, opened a Frostop restaurant in H'burg in '57. The Ward twins had the most incredible work ethic I have ever seen.
May your soul be in peace forever. You have certainly earned the rest.

Yesterday I received the best birthday gift ever— a recently discovered photo of my dad, enlarged. Thanks, Jill.
The absolute best way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of my 29th birthday.
So sad to hear of the passing of my buddy, JT Williamson, probably the only person I’ve ever known who loved talking about food more than me. I will miss those talks, and Mississippi will miss this true broadcasting legend.

For 15 years the homeowners association of the gated, Canal Place subdivision have been losing the battle vs local teenagers to keep the “C” on their signage.
I just heard an interview with Herschel Walker where he casually stated that he had just finished doing 1500 push-ups and 3500 sit ups this morning. I, on the other hand, made several grunting noises as I got out of bed and walked to the shower.

At Crescent City Grill, we want to say, thanks for keeping it local for 32+ yrs. See you soon. Though if you don't find yourself in one of our 6 restaurants or 2 bars, we hope you'll give your business to another locally owned independent restaurant in the Pine Belt.

Join the To The Top Collective to keep Southern Miss athletics competitive in the era of NIL. If we don’t act now, we will get left behind. The bright side is that each of us, as Golden Eagle fans can have a direct impact on the teams we love to support.
This will end. There is hope because we are a resilient people. We are resourceful, and we have proven time and time again that the American people step up to the plate in times like these.
Push onward. Pray. Be strong. Stay safe, and wash your hands.
Family Fish Night at The Midtowner. Every Friday and Saturday night 5-9pm.
Thin-Fried Catfish, Fried Shrimp, Chicken Tenders, lots of family-style passed vegetables, and all the fixins. WAY TOO MUCH FOOD!
After Hurrican Katrina, I fell in love with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches again. Last night, we ordered the Family Burger Box from Ed's. I had forgotten how much I love tater tots! A dry-aged strip wouldn't have tasted better.

The work continues getting ready for the opening of the all-new Crescent City Grill. New menu. New dining room. New kitchen. New attitude. Same location. I can hardly wait.
We love being back open and serving Hattiesburg. Give us a call. Individual portions, family-sized portions, and very large orders for offices. Pick-up at our curbside or we will deliver to your location. Find the menu on our social media. 601-264-0657

One doesn’t gain a flabulous physique such as this eating celery sticks and drinking kale smoothies. No. This level of championship sloth takes years of hard work at the training table doing cheeseburger presses, tater tot curls, and milkshake pull-ups.

One week from today Hattiesburg’s favorite breakfast spot, The Midtowner, reopens our doors. We’re back with a new menu and it’s better than ever. From the best pancakes on the planet to a true southern meat-and-three lunch. Join us July 28th at 7am.

In Mississippi, the queen mother of all condiments is comeback sauce. Comeback is the offspring of the incestuous marriage of 1000 island and remoulade. It is the bastard child of the Mississippi larder and it is awesome.
Recipe attached.
