Sophisticated depositors (those depositing more money than $250K) are meant to assess a bank's business.
Or at least ask that bank if they have ways of providing extra FDIC insurance.
Blaming depositors for bank failure is like placing the blame for medical malpractice on patients because they didn’t do a good enough job shopping for a doctor. Depositors expect the Fed to ensure that banks are safe.

Of course you do. Guaranteeing all uninsured deposits is a bailout. You may not like it, but that's what it is.
I’m not asking for a bailout. I’m asking for banking regulators to ensure the integrity of the system. Either deposits in the US are safe or they’re not. If not, look out below. We have a very big problem on our hands.

This has been a common flaw of reporting by many media in the past couple weeks. "Smaller banks losing deposits" turns out to be a bank with more than $100 billion of assets, which is not "small," and is only "smaller" in comparison to JPM or Wells.
Drives me a bit crazy.
The first line of this clickbait is “Small banks were not supposed to cause this much trouble.” SVB was nearly 1000 times the size of my average size community bank. “Small” banks didn’t cause these issues - large banks that should have known better, should have been managed

I don't think any of us considered this an "underlying condition" prior to COVID-19.
Whenever someone tweets about a person under 40 dying due to CV, there are replies from folks accusing them of leaving out that the person had underlying health condition
