Would love to get in touch with this guy - he was ahead of me as I came into the finishing straight but struggling to stay upright.
Kept him up and going until the marshals got there and told me to keep running, rightfully so.
He was fine as I saw him after and I think he may
@jimgiggs
Jim, so chuffed for you and it was a very natural thing to do. You bossed it and have that sub-3 in the bag. Huge kudos.
Hope you're recovering well, hopefully see you again in the future :)
73 years-old today. With absolutely no bias, I rate this man right up there with the best I’ve seen.
Two World Cup winners medals, 87 first class tons, 12 test hundreds… it tells only part of the story.
Happy birthday dad.
I had a very personal legacy from London 2012. I was inspired to get fit again … 105 marathons later, it’s mission accomplished.
The 2024 legacy is much more important.
That legacy is simple; that we will not, cannot and must not cede to racism and extremism.
I have the right
951 weeks. 6,657 days. Whichever way you look at it, that’s a long time.
On Friday 6th January 2006, I left work at Salford Quays and had decided that I would not be alive to see 7th January. The brilliant
@NWAmbulance
had other ideas.
This Friday, I’ll return to the Quays for
Today was my 96th marathon and it’s difficult to think of one I’ve enjoyed more.
I ran a nearly perfect race but, above all, I smiled all the way around because I was having a ball out there.
And it showed all day

One of my favourite cricket photos, with my 5’4” dad bent over laughing next to the 6’8” Joel Garner!
A very happy 70th birthday to the Big Bird, one of the true greats and a lovely bloke to boot.
Eight years ago today, I painfully ran & walked my way through my first ever 10k. Yesterday, aged 46, I completed marathon number 46.
The lesson is this. Size matters... a big heart will overcome nearly everything, especially the limits you impose on yourself
#ukrunchat
On 14 July 2023, I set out on a mission to run 3 marathons in 3 days which eventually turned into the goal of running 52 marathons in 52 weeks to support
@JamesPlaceUK
.
Tomorrow marks day 364, and I will be completing marathon 52 of this great journey.
It has been a privilege
En route to
@LondonMarathon
number 7… and there’s nothing like it!
Have a ball everyone whether you’re running, supporting or just observing the carnival 🙏🏾
@MMidis106
Thank you so much.
It was a very natural response to a human in discomfort. I learnt many values as a kid queuing for the standing Kop on a Saturday afternoon and one of those is that you help others in need 🙏🏾😊
Simply put; as a kid growing up in the 80s, if I’d had any money and had to pay to watch, my dad would have been near the top of the list of players I’d have wanted to watch.
Whenever I need to remember never to give up, I look back at photos of my first 10k back in 2013.
He never gave up. He believed in the impossible and made it reality

Jürgen didn’t just change this club on the pitch, he has totally transformed the culture off it. He gets us, we love him for it.

71 years-old today. A very happy birthday to the old man.
Didn’t see him in his prime when he was the world’s top-rated batsman in the mid-70s but even in his early 80s renaissance at
@WarwickshireCCC

Remains a
@windiescricket
great.
Am totally blown away opening my social media this evening after an afternoon focusing on the day job.
Humbled, thankful but, overall just wanting to say that I don’t think I did anything extraordinary, just looked after another human being, a runner who needed an arm around him
75 today and a long innings still going strong.
What a player, and a top bloke too.
Like any, not without complexity, and as with any father & son relationship, ours has not been without the odd play and miss.
That said, I’d not change a thing and it was super to reminisce
And this is why I always take a short moment to reflect when walking or running past The Oval. Fortunately that is quite often as I live around 2 miles from it!!!
On this day, 49 years ago, witnessed one of the most breathtaking assaults by a batter in cricket history:
West Indies were asked to chase 193 & they lost Greenidge early in the inning... In-walks Alvin Kallicharran:
Now look at the swag of Kallicharran:
Standing at just 5'4"
I’m told my time today was 4:10:00. I think in time it will mean more than my sub-3 in 2017.
It’s not about the time but the journey, the character you show, what you overcome, the people you share it with,
50th marathon today, no plan to reach 51 soon, grateful boy

Unbelievably powerful emotions reading the messages you’ve been sending this morning. Thank you.
I had a ball out there, an absolute ball.
Fastest marathon in 5 years, over the moon 🙏🏾
Will reply to all later 😊

And this is what it feels like to run your 50th marathon.
What a day. I’ve never taken as long to run 26.2 miles but who cares.
Probably showed more guts than in the other 49 put together. Now for beer!!
#LondonMarathon

Early start… when I booked the train I forgot it was a 3 o’clock and not 12.30 kick-off. That said, never complain about a few extra hours in the ‘Pool!

@jimgiggs
And he still nailed his sub-3, how good is that!!! Good to hear from you as always
@myelling
, missed you at the Expo on Wednesday night.
Ran past The Oval earlier, reflected on two things.
1. It's where dad had one of his most revered moments
2. The joy the West Indies gave the Windrush Generation & the next two generations
The latter further convicted me in my commitment to tackling social injustice.
Well the Leicester fan base went through a special and unique repertoire tonight which included songs about feeding the hungry, the victims of a tragedy, and even a library. A truly horrible set of supporters.
Opened up an old book this afternoon and the original of this popped out!!
Wow, wow and wow, the 17 year old me with me hero, the greatest of them all 🙏🏾🏏

Always nice to be home at
@Edgbaston
- lovely to pop into the museum and see so many of dad’s trophies & memorabilia on display.
And very nice to see
@windiescricket
take two early wickets!
Another one I found last night. Dad would have been 25 years old here (I was in my eighth month!) practicing at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai before the 5th Test of the 1974/75 series which
@windiescricket
won 3-2in India, a match in which he scored 98 in the first innings.
First run of the week tonight, unthinkable for me. However, such have been physical symptoms of anxiety, the thought of increased heart-rate has been unpalatable.
Mental ill health not nice but acknowledgement is part of the journey.
Was wearing & listening
@TheAnfieldWrap

Not the worst few days to catch a bit of sport.
And what a stunning afternoon at one of the world’s great cricketing arenas…

However, his influence went way beyond that as an umpire in the UK,
And there you have it. 100 marathons complete. Haven’t the words right now, so am just going to say thank you to every single one who have been such a special part of the journey 🙏🏾

The pilgrimage begins! Destination Anfield for the 12:30 kick-off. Three trips left this season to the place I call home. I treat every single one as if it’s the last and never forget how blessed I am to share that joy with my mates. Up the quadruple chasing Reds!

That’s a day that will live long in the memory. On paper, it’s simply marathon number 94. In reality, it meant more than any other.
Running 50 miles shouldn’t be easy and it wasn’t. Hit a wall between miles 32 and 36 but came through thanks to a big bar of Kendal’s Mint Cake.

Yesterday was an amazing day. So blessed by the love shown to us by our friends, truly we felt so loved. Many already have thanked us for including them in our special day... the truth is it was special because they were there to share it.
Thank you so much & see you all soon! x
History may end up telling us that the day Labour chose Ed instead of David Milliband was a day on which the direction of our country was irreparably changed.
Last run of my fifth decade. Tomorrow’s run will, by the grace of God, be my 100th marathon and a lovely way to turn 50.

Love this photo of dad, taken I suspect at the Adelaide Oval on the 1979/80 tour and, therefore, likely during his 12th and final test match century.
Very few played the hook and pull as fearlessly against the quickies.
I love these guys!
The one on the left started the most unlikely journey of running & fundraising in 2013, resilient to his own doubts & disbelief of those around him.
The one on the right knows it’s time to finish this chapter of the journey, albeit not without a big bang!
@jimgiggs
Similarly, it will be forever a pleasure - let me know whenever you're down in London or similarly I will if in the Midlands. The other options will be a pre-season between your beloved QoS and my beloved Reds.
Take care & keep in touch. Will pop you a PM with contact dets.

Account on private for a while. Am going through a very difficult time at the moment and it feels that self-reproach is growing by the minute.
Time to respond constructively, in prayer, in reflection, in sharing, rather than carrying the burden of hatred.
41 years since the first photo was taken! Always one that people seem to love.
I do love that I’ve ended up living less than two miles from The Oval, where this was taken and where my dad had a couple of his finest moments. A home from home for the West Indies

Was reading through some statistics this afternoon for something else altogether, so was pleasantly surprised to see that dad is still the 48th highest run scorer in the history of first-class cricket. It’s quite the accolade.
It’s likely that this won’t change any time soon
My beard is often my protection, it’s the shield by which I stop people seeing inside when things are breaking.

party! How has everyone’s weekend been? Hopefully lots of running and relaxation!
Did my first ever back to back marathons! Had to dig deep but loved every moment!
Have a great evening and week ahead!
I'm inclined to agree. World-class at his best ... combination of factors robbed him of being one of THE greats. In his control, nine Test Match scores in the 90s to go with his 12 hundreds tells its own story in only 66 caps.
Thanks
@fredfertang
, I will share this with him!
Who is the most underrated cricketer of all time? I can think of a few candidates, but Alvin Kallicharran would certainly be close to the top of my list - here he is giving Alan Knott a batting masterclass
Love and really appreciate these photos sent to me today of the old man.
1. 1972 Gillette Cup Final
2. 1980 vs Australia at Adelaide (his 12th & last test hundred)
3. 1989 NatWest Semi-Final against Worcestershire at

These two loved to bat together. I’d argue that neither of their test records fully speak into how brilliant they were.
Dad looks so young in this photo, he’d have been 26 at the time. Sad to think his Test Career ended at the age of 31 with some of his best form ahead of him.
