Dear school administrators: If you're going to make teachers come into the school to teach 100% online classes, make sure your network has the bandwidth to support all of your teachers Zooming/ Meeting/ streaming at the same time. Respectfully, Stressed-out teachers

I saw a job posting for a district technology director. The posting said to mail a resume and application, "no email or faxes accepted." I think I know what the first order of business is for the person who takes that job...

The last six weeks have proven to me that many schools leaders who said, "our staff knows how to use instructional technology" were wrong. Having a one-day in-service the week before school starts is not adequate professional development.

I answer at least a dozen help request emails per day from random teachers on the Internet. If I get even one "thank you" or even an acknowledgement that I took time to reply it's a good day.

If you find yourself trying to make short (and I should emphasize short) videos for online instruction for the first time, remember you're not trying to make a viral TikTok, you're trying to help your students. Don't worry about the "umms" or how your hair looks (within reason).

The amount of curt and generally rude emails that I receive from teachers is alarming. If you want to create polite students, you should start by modeling polite behavior yourself.

In an attempt to explain how slow dial-up was when I was in college I told my students that I started downloading "Smells Like Teen Spirit" when to dinner at the dining hall, came back and it was still downloading. They didn't believe me and didn't know who Nirvana was. 🙄
