5/ Our findings suggest that the hidden, often non-monetized damages from natural disasters may be considerable. This has important implications for how we think about disaster preparedness, as well as the composition and targeting of disaster-relief.

4/ Implied earnings loss from reduced achievement and college attendance may be same order of magnitude as assessed damages to physical capital. For instance, a disaster that causes $500 per capita in physical damages has monetized learning losses valued at PDV $268 per capita.
