Goodbye Philippines is trending. I can’t imagine why. Maybe because people do not trust Duterte. Maybe it was the killings. Maybe it was the bowing to China. Maybe it was the CoVid inaction. Maybe it was the paid trolls and fake news. Maybe it was the missing Billions.
I've been looking at the HIV numbers here in the Philippines and it's frustrating that it's mostly ignored by the media and government departments that should be addressing it. HIV is the silent stalker that is coming for the Filipino youth. A 🧵
Why is the Philippines at the bottom of all the Covid-resiliency reports? A catastrophic failure of leadership. Personal profit over public good. Egos over common sense.

Filipinos: We need the president to lead!
Go: Look! He can sit at a desk.
Filipinos: We need the president to address the nation.
Go: Look! He can run in the dark.
Filipinos: ....
Go: Look! He can hit a golf ball. And ride a tricycle.
Filipinos: Is he a fricking toddler?
The Philippines is often an afterthought for investors: neither a giant like India nor a manufacturing superstar like Vietnam. But its economy has quietly been booming. What’s spurring this growth—and what could threaten it?

Wow. This tweet blew up. Must have hit a nerve. Lots of trolls comments, which has led me to a new learning about Twitter that will help keep many of us sane: Notifications filter. Bye trollies. Go get worthwhile jobs that build the country, not break it down.
@sotto_tito
If I see a person with a suicide vest, this law isn't going to help me. How many Filipinos die by suicide bombings each year? Instead of creating a surveillance state, why not develop Mindanao? Poverty breeds desperation. Desperation breeds terrorism.
Yes, we stole your seas, destroyed your reefs, bulldozed your islands and will pillage your oil and natural gas. But our research shows you like music. So we made you a song...
The music video, released by the Chinese embassy in Manila, features a song written by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, with Camarines Sur Vice Governor Imelda Papin as one of the performers.

Not surprising. Remember when DOST reported that most of the big vinegar brands were artificial? That story got swept under the rug real fast.
The thinking behind this new PhilHealth idea is so clear. We need money... OFWs have money... Let’s make the OFWs pay...
If Philhealth is running low on funds because of COVID, my first question is, where is the P275B?

In the middle of a pandemic. On the brink of an economic collapse. With millions unemployed.
This is when Duterte and his henchmen decided to screw 11 thousand Filipinos.

President Marcos is in Puerto Princesa today and all along the road from the airport to the venue the gas station signs are blank. No prices displayed so that he won’t see how high the price of gas here is.

@cnnphilippines
They can “expect” all they like. China doesn’t give a damn about the Philippines, as long is it is subservient to them. You can’t negotiate from a position of weakness.
Serious question for
@DOHgovph
: What is the testing backlog at RITM? We’re all focused on number of positive cases, but we don’t know how far into the past we are looking. Palawan is waiting on 19 tests and about to ease quarantine restrictions.

Past presidents: Filipinos should have retirement savings. Let’s create a social security fund.
This president: We need money. Let’s gamble with the social security fund.

Given that HIV and teen pregnancy are two sides of the same coin, you'd expect
@DepEd_PH
would be teaching young people with Sex Ed (as mandated by the 2012 RH Law). Sadly not. DepEd says they're teaching Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) but aren't training teachers to do so.
I never thought I would have to debate a
@unicefphils
doctor about the need for young people in in the Philippines to have access to condoms in schools. "Too controversial" apparently.
From 2012 to 2023, there was a 411% increase in daily incidence. Testing slowed during Covid, but steadily increasing cases are back on the increasing trend now. Bear in mind that 2023 in this graph is only half of the year.
Minion: Sir, we’re in the midst of a pandemic and the country is on the brink of economic meltdown.
Duterte: I don’t care, she said nasty things about me.

The House of Representatives approved on third and final reading the bill seeking to allow foreign ownership of public utilities in the country, a move seen as “fatal violation” of the Constitution.
I see people claiming that the Philippines is replicating the Taiwan response. Taiwan shut down flights to China early (Feb 10). Their response to quarantine is... well you can read for yourself.

This is what Aussies do. They niggle, foul and insult until the other team loses their cool and embarrasses themselves. Filipinos are emotional to begin with and reacted badly. Both teams should be ashamed.

So the Duterte Admin noticed that people were calling them out online. Their response? To pay online trolls to change the narrative. I look forward to seeing the report on the P275B emergency budget, due, (checks notes), last Monday.
The vast majority of people getting the virus are men who have sex with men (MSM). And before you think it's just an issue for MSM, you know what else is increasing in the Philippines? Teenage pregnancy.
You'd also expect the
@DOHgovph
to be providing condoms at every opportunity. Haha. The DOH doesn't even mention condoms on their website. The current prevention strategy is test and treat. Wild, when you consider that HIV is still incurable.
The vast majority of Filipinos are contracting HIV from unprotected sex. Sure, Cebu has an issue with sharing needles, but it's just 2% of all known cases.
How to win an election as an unknown candidate in the Philippines: just change your name to a well-known name. Don’t attend interviews. Don’t attend debates. See how far it takes you.
@jumpnyourbones
Been thinking about that too. I have a feeling that PLDT stunt was Chinese hackers paving the way for the Chinese telco entry into the Philippine market.
Message the Phillippines sends to outside investors: don’t bring your companies here. We’ll copy your business model, then shut you down.

Earlier, Sen Pimentel, who is friends with JoyRide owners, endorsed the letter of JoyRide PH to join the motorcycle taxis pilot test run.
Now, Pimentel called on the Senate to declare as “persona non grata” Angkas CEO.

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano explained his reasoning behind the much-maligned photo in which he and Executive Sec Salvador Medialdea posed for photos while holding a sheet of manila paper with a pasted-on message at the House of Representatives.

If she was too old to know what was going on, she was too old to manage DepEd. Age is not an excuse if public servants choose not to retire.
@EdselSalvana
That is good news indeed. But is a massive difference. Such a jump in numbers is bound to raise suspicions at a time when trust is low. Transparency builds trust.
In the Philippines, most problems like the CAAP debacle are a combination of corruption and incompetence. The tricky part is figuring out which is the bigger factor. What say you Twitter?

Wow, this blew up! I hope that you all register to vote and convince those not on Twitter to vote for Leni. I would say, "This is your time to shine Filipinos." but I think you already know that.

We missed the ‘closing the borders’ bus.
We missed the ‘mass testing’ bus.
We missed the ‘vaccine’ bus.
Why? Because we’re being held back by the very people charged to protect us.
10 M missed doses = 5 M Filipinos vaccinated in January. We missed early herd immunity. Early economic recovery and normal lives.When cabinet members quarrel in public, it is a clear sign that the IATF is not running a tight ship.
Who dropped the ball ?
If HIV were a regular disease, the focus would be on prevention. But because adults are uncomfortable talking about sex, (especially with young people), HIV is being left to spread amongst the unwitting. Let's hope the DOH under
@Teddybird
takes it seriously.
Research has shown that there is a lag between when Filipino teens start having sex and when they start using condoms. It ranges from a year to two years. And even after that many don't use condoms consistently.
Your daily reminder that the Marcos’ stole billions of dollars from the Philippines. They ran away to escape consequences. Now, they have bought their way back into power with your money Filipinos.
#Halalan2022
The Philippines DOESN’T have money for: mass testing.
The Philippines DOES have money for: killing drug users, cauldrons, intel funds, Mocha Uson, travel junkets, online trolls, terrorizing citizens, closing media outlets.

The House plenary voted to pass on second reading House Bill 78, which delineated “public service” from “public utility” that is covered by the 40-percent limit on foreign ownership set by the 1987 Constitution.
