As Covid has shut down traveling, my friend has a fun idea. Eat around the world across Tokyo!
So, give me restaurant recommendations of ‘authentic’ foods from around the world in Tokyo! (In-store vibes, food, etc)
Asahi released a new スーパードライ 生ジョッキ缶. Fun novelty if you miss the head of beer, which I think only Japanese people miss. (Note: I’ll wipe the table down later 😬)
Enjoying Uyghur cuisine at SilkRoad in Shinjuku. The Lamb Nann is a cheeky pie 🤩 the hand-pulled noodles are really good, and lamb tongue is surprisingly tasty!
Found a fancy cheap place on my commute home that has a lemon sour tap at your seat, and a self-filling (from the bottom) glass of beer!
For ¥385/30min, I ain’t complaining! (Besides the subpar food…)
Younger brother arrived in Japan.
“Hey, where are the big eating challenges?”
Turns out he’s ranked 6th in the Australian competitive eating scene…
Went to Go!Go!CURRY for the WCC meal. 2.5kg of curry katsu goodness. He finishes it clean. The 店長 asks for his photo for the HP
Aussies and New Zealanders. You a fan of Whittaker’s peanut slab? Well, NewDays has a Block Bonbon copy for only like ¥80! A touch sweeter, but I’ll allow it for the price!
I bought that Yeti burger from BK. Ever wondered how much it weighed? Half a kilo… too much meat, very greasy, expensive, fun novelty. Had to eat it in layers after multiple attempts of trying to eat it as-is.
Our list so far looks like:
Hisar in Okubo (Turkish)
CABE in Meguro (Indonesian)
Uyghur in Shinjuku (Uyghur)
Angkor Wat in Yoyogi (Cambodian)
Sonia in Bunkyo-ku (Russian)
Didn’t post this yesterday when I saw it, but this is the first time I’ve seen a Baskin-Robbins ice cream vending machine. (Tokyo Station, in front of JR Yaesu Central Exit)
600km+ ridden today, around 400km with
@peteswandering
. 埼玉→群馬→新潟→長野→群馬→埼玉. Here’s a pic of a canyon and lunch. We spoke and rode way too much to really take any pics.
Liquid Ruby in Shinjuku. One of the best bar experiences I’ve had in Tokyo. Their old fashioned was a bit on the strong side, but their whisky sour was sublime. Atmospheric and amazing. Will be back again soon!
The first picture has been my desktop wallpaper since I took it 1.5 years ago, and the second has been my laptop background for almost 2 years.
I need to go out for some new pics for some new backgrounds, but I really love the colors and composition of the Yokohama shot still…
Went to Nissin (20min walk from work) and picked these up. Never tried Cholula before, but pleasantly happy finding smoked paprika!
Next time I’ll definitely pick up more!
Best thing about Hokkaido: cool summer temps
Worst thing about Hokkaido: the MASSIVE amount bugs that explode on your helmet visor / windscreen.
Clean the visor and ride 5 minutes? New dead bug or three… (with massive splatter)
I love how cheap lunches can be in Japan. New Thai restaurant opened opposite my workplace, and this Thai Green Curry meal was like ¥800. Green curry is definitely in my top 3 favorite foods
