@cenemes It looked exploratory, and it was chased off by a House Finch before it could settle in to feeding. However, after posting this, I heard about a Bay-breasted in Florida doing the same thing. As one of our later migrants it could be a good way to fatten up on cool mornings....

Inspired by some fun conversations about co-migrations & resident-migrant interactions at #AOS24. thought I'd dust off the old Twitter & share some migrant magic at my pond. First up is Warbling Vireo hating on a House Finch - a new yard bird & my 7th vireo species for the yard!

What a pleasure it was to work with superstar grad student @MeganTomamichel, now a RAISE postdoc fellow at VIMS.
A nasty disease is attacking Georgia shrimp and raising concerns for the fishing industry that relies on them. A recent @UGAEcology Ph.D graduate investigates what contributes to the spread of black gill disease and how to protect coastal fisheries.

We'd love to see more theory students join our grad program! We have a strong contingent of population & disease ecologists here. If you're interested in MS/PhD research developing math models on global chg, animal movement (especially birds!), wildlife disease pls get in touch!
Love numbers? Love ecology? Why choose one? You can do both while earning a graduate degree at the Odum School of Ecology, a leader in quantitative approaches to solving ecological problems. Apply now for grad degrees, including a new non-thesis master’s.
