We lost one of the great ones yesterday as we had to say goodbye to our boy Harlan. Tough 3 weeks watching him go from perfectly healthy to this, RIP Har! 10 great years with you!

I have had several coaching sessions recently with new directors. Most are hyper focused on their team’s results, which is great! But remember success at this level means finding ways to contribute to the broader organization’s goals and driving innovation!

Many leaders I Coach are looking at job changes in the new year. Some are very confident in their decisions. Others are spending a lot of time asking themselves (and others) - should I or shouldn’t I questions? This is a clear sign that goals and values aren’t aligned! #Friction

One of the most common mistakes I see leaders make when taking a new role is getting priorities confused! Most leaders talk about having a plan & gaining knowledge, but too quickly get trapped “needing to be there for their team” leaving them ill prepared to make a real impact!

Some of the best advice I ever got from a boss in a high-pressure corporate setting (were competition was definitely King!) was: “There’s no reason to make enemies for no reason.“ it’s easy to get caught up in the game but be careful about burning bridges! #collaborate

Have you ever worked for a boss who formed negative opinions of a team member based on 1st impressions? These judgments can be damaging both for the individual & the company. It’s like judging a TV show after 1 episode. Break the snap judgment cycle!

It’s that time of year - setting New Year’s goals. I’m noticing a trend with the leaders I’m coaching: their goals are heavily focused on work & family with very few personal goals. While this seems noble it’s a risk - goals should reflect all the important areas of your life!

We all know having strong networks inside and outside of work is critical. To get the most out of these performance boosting relationships we need to surround ourselves with people that are stronger in areas where we lack. This takes courage!

A lot of young in career Leaders equate having a schedule packed with back to back meetings with success! Don’t fall into this trap, it means you have to many priorities. Everyone needs time in their day to do important work & think deeply. #controlyourschedule

i’ve worked for companies that took strategy very seriously and took months to complete and for others who barely spent any time worrying about it. The most common mistake, both make is confusing strategy for action. When that happens, teams lose direction.

I have long been a proponent of leaders having a strong “Management System” in order to avoid miscommunication, unclear roles & a lack of feedback! Think of this as the OS for your team so they know how to collaborate & innovate effectively!

Another one about the joys of being part of or working with a highly effective leadership team! These groups have great discipline around decision making and incredible resilience - they tackle problems head on! Makes it easy for everyone to know their role!
