Here’s my latest blog article on Modernizing IBM i apps. While it focuses a bit on .Net, the concepts in general are useful for any of your app modernization needs.

Take a look at this post about leveraging Jasper Reports with your IBM i system, possibly as an alternative to DB2 Web Query or other tools like Advanced Function Print (AFP) for designing reports and forms.

Hey all. For any of you looking to do reporting from IBM i. I created a wrapper around Pete Helgrens RPG Report Generator Java code that can execute JasperReports from IBM i. Have fun.

@adam_on_i This would have been back around 2007-2008 when V6R1 was out. And then came V7R1. Chances are this may not be an issue in today's world but hard to say without a bit of testing. You could tweak the build programs and test to see. Possible it was caused by mixing OPM/CLLE calls.

@adam_on_i Back in the early days of using QSH/Pase we used to get memory corruption on parms going in and out of QSH/Pase with CLLE. Oddly enough compiling to OPM would resolve the issues.

@adam_on_i FWIW there's a service program wrapper for QSHEXEC and QSHBASH now. Jesse Gorzinski also did this in C. Or you can roll your own. You have options.
