I feel bad for him too, because he seemed so real before, in a way that didn't register (to me at least) as being performative—which is a high bar to clear these days. It's not hard to see the gritted teeth and sense the inner pain though—especially given how personal the first game was for him, and Warhorse. Just yet another massive indictment of the current state of the ghost of a husk of a craft that still calls itself the “games industry”, when everyone can see it's the smoldering ruins of what we all remember it being just a few short years ago.

It's because the banana peel guy is so good at effectively playing the part of the bumbling clown—his expert showmanship and strict adherence to kayfabe keeps the masses fooled, even after doing the same thing 100 times. nth-order thinking and long-term pattern-matching simply aren't something most people do by default—instead it's just, receive stimuli, react to stimuli, then be legitimately surprised when stimuli-predicted outcome differs from what actually ends up happening. People get proficient at nth-order thinking and pattern-matching in their specific fields as necessary, of course. But few naturally know how to apply these things more generally. And even fewer are willing to do so with regards to a banana peel clown guy—no matter how impressive his backflips end up being, when they elicit surprise for the 101st time.
