Unequivocally, today has been the hardest day of our lives. Jane and I will be forever indebted to the consummate skill of
@Dr_JCF
and his wonderful team. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. 🙏❤️
Well, the day has arrived - my last at
@Citrix
after a truly fantastic 5 years at this great company. There are simply too many people to be thankful and grateful to - all of the Citrites, CTPs, customers and partners - without whom, this role would never have been as fun.
So, let’s recap. We’ve got remotely operated drones that can strike in times of war. We’ve got jamming technology for multiple frequencies. We’ve got a spacecraft roaming around Mars. And. We’ve got a fucking drone that’s crippled a major international airport.
#GatwickDrones
Quote of the week: “what’s the difference between AI and ML? If it’s written in python it’s probably ML, if it’s written in PowerPoint it’s probably AI”.
Asked this morning “how do you prepare for keynotes and presentations?”
1. Write down your entire narrative
2. Read it back
3. Repeat 1 & 2 until it feels like a story
4. Prepare slides w/ limited verbiage
5. Rehearse over and over and over
6. Adjust speed of delivery
7. Go
You’ll never be respected for a job title. You’ll never be respected for position on an org chart. You’ll be respected for how you use that title and position to better yourself, but more importantly, better others. Make that your goal. You’re good enough. Others need your help.
Same tracks, new destination.
Thrilled to be joining
@HashiCorp
today as EMEA CTO. Looking forward to working with some familiar faces, some smart new folks and helping many amazing customers continue their cloud transformation journeys. 🫡
Sometimes you just have to come right out and say it. I’m not ashamed. If it helps someone, anyone, then that’s a win. Thanks to
@techradar
for the platform.

Y’all better get ready for more airport lounge pictures of beer and DJ events because I am thrilled to announce that
@reillyusa
is officially rejoining
@citrix
as VP of Technology Strategy and running the newly formed Technology Strategy Organization. BOOM!
Anyone that says you don’t need luck in your career is lying. Recognising luck and capitalising on it is what matters. And then once you’ve progressed, make lucky opportunities for others. Funny how magic works.
Today is a historic day for Citrix as the expected date of closure of the take-private deal arrives (30th September).
It also marks my final day with this great organisation and the curtain finally comes down
So, I have a favor / favour to ask y’all. Tomorrow morning, my oldest kiddo,
@CloudLivvy
, goes into major surgery (again) at Alder Hey. If you could send some ++ thoughts to us all, especially as I’m thousands of miles away, I’d appreciate it. ❤️
Very proud of my son
@reillyusajr
who today has donated his amazing long hair to make wigs for cancer sufferers. He’s been growing it for a few years for this cause.
Can we honestly stop arguing about pointless, rhetorical concepts like “vendor certifications” and “who has which degree and who doesn’t”. Just hire for potential, train for skill and reward professional curiosity and results. Honestly.
In another day on the “perfectly normal island of Great Britain” we have started to put locks on cheese. Just let that sink in. We are locking cheese up. 🐭
Happy Monday all. Very privileged to be able to share my story of living with and coping with mental illness on the
@citrix
intranet today. I’m not scared to talk. Neither should you be, if you’re affected. My door is always open. Don’t suffer in silence.
#ItsOKNotToBeOK
To all of my Citrix friends and colleagues who have been affected by the restructuring program, I extend a sincere and open offer for you to contact me in confidence anytime for a chat, and, to see if I can assist you through my network which I will do to the best of my ability.
Happy 4th
@citrix
birthday to me. It’s been a great ride this last four years and we’ve accomplished much. Plenty more to do with the great team of Citrites, CTPs, CTAs, Partners - and, of course, our Customers. 🚀
Well, today is my last official work day of 2019. It’s been an incredible year and I’m already looking forward to what we have in store here
@Citrix
for 2020. Many thanks to all of you for the ongoing support and friendship. Have a wonderful holiday season. Peace. 🙏
The one huge problem with “cloud” is that it will result in an entire generation never knowing the pain of slicing your finger to shreds with a 42U rack cage pin. I believed, and still believe, this kind of injury is a right of passage.
4 months after major cancer surgery and here we are back in our happy place. There were times I thought I’d never see this day. Words can never thank
@Dr_JCF
and the team at
@livHeadandNeck
enough. ❤️🇪🇸
Of all the millions of things you will learn in your career, always keep integrity as the number one value. Nothing else really matters without it. Don’t make it negotiable. Ever.
Today marks the "official" end of my time with Citrix.
Looking back on my 7 years here, I can not single out one memory over another, simply because there have been so many.
The enormity of this current situation really hits you when you stand in the cold and watch your friend of 40 years driven past in a hearse and then go home to watch his funeral online. Tell you what. Fuck cancer and fuck this virus, too.
A must remember. Especially in these strange times. We are conditioned to push ourselves relentlessly in the pursuit of titles and monetary reward. I can tell you that doing so really begins to affect you over time. Take some time to think about “A Better Measure” for yourself.
It starts with a vision. I am crying real tears. It’s actually awesome to see how far we have come in one year - since the sneak peek at the end of last year’s keynote. Congrats to all the Citrites who have worked on this. A proud day.

It's official! Christian Reilly former Vice President and CTO of Citrix has joined our Board of Directors!
We're thrilled to have him on board, bringing decades of experience, Christian will help us build a technology roadmap unparalleled in the industry!
Welcome to the team! 👏🏽
Very happy to support
@BGSTSTUDIO
and their mission. The rates of male suicide and mental health problems in the UK are growing daily. It’s ok not to be ok.

One of the surprising things that I hear from people wfh for the first time is their concern that their boss might think they are working less. Let me debunk that. We know you are working more. So get that out of your heads. Be safe and be conscious of the need for breaks.

Why are we still talking about whether people got into “Tech” with our without a CS degree? I don’t care if you’ve got a high school diploma in origami as long as you’ve got a thirst to learn and a committed work ethic. Can we just stop. Honestly.
Just when I thought my job couldn’t get any more diverse - just had dinner with the CIO of the Vatican....I asked him who he worked for and he said The Holy Father himself. 😳
Oh spare me the “cloud is unreliable” BS. I’ll use the analogy again. Airplane crashes (cloud) make the news because a lot of people die at once. Car crashes (on premises) don’t make the news because only one person dies. Show me an enterprise with the same uptime as cloud?
The empathy and support I’ve witnessed from so many over the last 48 hours has restored my faith in this industry and has shown humanity in its greatest form. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. 🙏
Not going to lie, the last 5 days have been pretty awful. Seeing any of your kids go through major surgery and pain is the worst of parenting. In part, thanks to the skill of the staff, your good wishes and divine intervention, she’s on the way home and to recovery. 🙏
In trying times, Leaders are defined by their actions. Massive props to
@DavidJHenshall
for the incredible email that has just gone out to all Citrites globally. Truly a great CEO.
Reflecting on a crazy few days and raising a glass to Liv. From the girl who they said would never walk to the young woman we’ve left at University 7000 miles from home. Parenting is some really hard shit, y’all. 🫡
The father of encryption. A homosexual, convicted as a criminal by the very country he helped save from war, committed suicide as a result. Pardoned in 2013 and now celebrated on our new £50 note. Bravo. About time he received the accolade he deserves.
Well, the day is almost here. Tomorrow, we wave goodbye to our eldest daughter, Liv, who is heading to Seoul for her 4 year undergraduate degree at Yonsei University. To say I am proud wouldn’t cut it. You’re my inspiration. Tempus Fugit. God speed. Love you. 🫡❤️
I find it a little sad that folks keep tweeting tech stuff over the weekend. Imagine if there were more tweets about what people love to do outside of the relentless bandwagon of work.
To celebrate Brexit last night, we had Spanish chorizo cooked in Portuguese red wine, Brussels pate with French bread, Italian prosciutto, Greek olives and Spanish manchego cheese - all washed down with a lovely white Rioja.
Well..apparently the on-stage network failed during my demo. Here's a quick video of how it REALLY works. Watch out for the facial recognition and the "Actions" section. This is way cool.
#CitrixSynergy
Let’s hope that this small contribution of desperately needed items, sent with love from my family, helps others in need. If we all do a little, it soon becomes a lot. 🇺🇦
And today is my last working day for this year. I would like to say a huge thanks to my team,
@citrix
colleagues, partners, customers, CTPs and industry peers for making this a great 2018. I wish you all a wonderful holiday with peace and prosperity for 2019.
Drove to the airport (my car manufacturer is a
@citrix
customer)...flew to Munich (airline is a customer)...took the train to the office (train operator is a customer)...met a customer (they make parts for my car manufacturer)...train back / flight / car home - customers. Wow.
Humbled by the number of folks who have stopped me and chatted today. When you set your personal bar high, it’s hard to deal with failures. Many folks have reminded me that’s it’s not the end of the world and I appreciate that immensely. Thank you.
