The remorse and sadness here is not that Boston didn't match or rise to the Padres offer this week. It's in the fact that we very realistically still have him if we had come early to the party before the market blew up with a 7 or 8 year offer and $25-27MM AAV in the last 12 mo.

Bloom built a team that pushed the upper limit of what we all expected. Doesn't feel good now, but we're in a better spot today than we were two years ago to sustain. Offseason begins 5 days after the World Series with options due for JDM, Richards, Schwarber, Perez, Vazquez.

Sox have ~$12.25MM in projected room below the first CBA threshold. Should the FO seek to improve later this month and that number matters to them as a hard cap, they can bring in ~$36-37MM in salary, which is prorated down to fit below that projected space. We could also send

With ~$30MM in room under the CBT line and 2-3 moves left to field a minimum viable roster, it's entirely possible to grab a Segura/Eovaldi-esque combo (swap out names as you wish) to hug the line. That said, sort of looks like @redsoxstats ' "middle class shopping" nightmare. 😬

Personally, I don’t get the trade. You’re dealing a good pitcher with three years of team control for a single-A mid round pick who hasn’t popped at any point. It’s one thing if you’re dealing rentals, trading Schreiber I just don’t get. Selling in February…

Criswell has an option remaining(!) so this adds up/down pen depth, but also 5 additional years of control beyond 2024. Also - the league min is $740k this year, so this is really not a big deal. Even a DFA at some point and another team could shave some of the burden off of he

Right-hander Cooper Criswell and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $1 million contract, a source tells ESPN. Criswell, 27, spent the last two seasons in Tampa Bay and was DFA’d but found a solid market and leveraged it into a fully guaranteed big league deal.

Sox are currently at ~$201MM+ in projected CBT payroll for 2024. If they were to add a few rumored guys like Imanaga (~$18MM AAV) and Soler (~$16MM AAV), they would be at or slightly below the first threshold with a need for one more SP. This is why there are likely rumors of a

Rich Hill enters today with 118.1 IP. He already earned a $250k bonus two starts ago for achieving 110IP for the season. Today in his final start of the year, if he finishes just 1.2 innings, he would earn another $250k which would unlock at 120IP overall. #DickMountainDollars

Things have really gone off the rails when The Nation (TM) goes nuts after Teoscar Hernandez signs a one-year deal with a team in the other league. Imagine reading that in early November and expecting to care this much. I get the factors at play. This ride has been...magical.

One of the geekiest things I enjoy each April is @SoxProspects updating their visual of the next season's projected roster with guys under contract. It helps to show what the team looks like at the top two levels. Missing here is Giolito, who will return at some point in 2025.
