Would you consider helping my family assist a great church plant in Madrid this summer? Giving and/or sharing would really make a difference. Thank you, friends!
They were jerks to Tim Keller as he died of cancer.
They’re jerks to David French as his wife deals with cancer.
They were jerks to Beth Moore before she left and kept being jerks after she left.
Maybe they’re just jerks.
Before the Mary, Did You Know? discourse begins, can we all agree that although Mary knew some of the stuff about who Jesus is and what he would do, those lyrics are an effective literary device presenting the glories of Christ through the Christmas narrative.
It’s weird when Christians are cool with a public figure constantly lying as long as they’re “standing up” against sin in the culture. It’s almost like we forgot that lying is… sin.
Seriously, how were people so radicalized by the slight inconvenience by gathering outdoors or wearing a mask temporarily to worship God?
Especially when the whole point was considering one another more significant than ourselves.
Soft. And sad.
If Trump was a Dem, Franklin Graham would be cheering his prosecution for hush money illegally paid re: his extramarital affair.
This is a clear example of how postmodernism has overtaken even the crowd who warned us most fervently against it. All in service to idols of power.
I spent the majority of today in the box for jury selection. At one point, the prosecutor gave me an opportunity to witness to the court when he asked, “Can you believe something beyond a reasonable doubt that you haven’t seen?”
“Yes. I believe Jesus Christ rose from the dead.”
Christian Americans: Jesus is the reason for the season! Keep Christ in Christmas!
Pastor: Amen! Christmas falls on a Sunday this year, and I can't wait to gather with you all to worship Jesus on the Lord's Day!
Christian Americans:
As someone who lost a family member very likely because they didn't (and very nearly lost another family member before it was available)... folks have to be alive to have regrets.
People who don’t like It’s a Wonderful Life have probably never felt like everyone else would be better off without them. Can’t relate. But for those who have/do, here’s what I do know: it’s good that you’re here. We need you. And it really is a wonderful thing to be alive. 🫶🎄
"You HAVE to vote for him, he's super pro-life!"
// shows he's not pro-life //
"You HAVE to vote for him, he's the better option!"
Goalposts have moved dozens if not hundreds of times to accommodate this man. They nominated him 3x. Don't let them tell you they don't want him.
The Evangelical Christian Nationalists would naturally prefer ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ which explicitly and repeatedly acknowledges God, over the ‘The Star Spangled Banner,’ IF they didn’t know the context of either song.
Let the reader understand.
“Diversity is a mistake and segregation is good, actually” seems to be growing like cancer on the political and religious right under the banner of “anti-wokeness.” Don’t be deceived, it’s old fashioned white supremacy. Reject it, brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s anti-Gospel.
I've seen tweets from professing Christians saying, in effect, "I don't condone what Kenneth Darlington did, but I understand... he was fed up/tired/wanted to be left alone."
Cold-blooded murder is not "understandable," chief. It's antichrist.
“The white men who lynch Negroes worship Christ. That jury in Mississippi, which a few days ago in the Emmett Till case, freed two white men from what might be considered one of the most brutal and inhuman crimes of the twentieth century, worships Christ...
The rapid growth of so-called “anti-woke” churches is just the attractional model applied to a different way of sorting people. It’s the homogenous unit principle, only this time it isn’t so much reaching spiritual seekers as moving the churched around via tertiary commitments.
with these people, however, is that they worship Christ emotionally and not morally. They cast his ethical and moral insights behind the gushing smoke of emotional adoration and ceremonial piety..."
- MLKJr, after the unjust acquittal of Till's murderers
Last week we had a previously-churched atheist attend our worship service. Apparently he told those with whom he came they should never leave our church, because the message really spoke to him in a way he’d never experienced. Pray for this man to come to know Jesus!
david french and russ moore are both more Christian and more conservative than donald trump in their convictions oh and they actually have convictions send tweet
I really it doesn’t come down to anything more complicated than in this iteration of Christian Nationalism’s theology, anthropology, sociology, and politics, women are *always* the problem.
“The woman you gave me…”
They want the 10 commandments posted in government spaces.
They also want you to elect a man to the highest government office who constantly and stridently violates every one of them.
Of course you can. Especially if many people join you. Especially if Christians as a group decide not to give it to someone whose values are so far from their own. The issue is y’all don’t want that message sent. You like the possibility of power more than the cost of principle.
There is no way to explain to a normal person what’s happened to conservatism the last 8 years. It’s unrecognizable. Whatever you’re lamenting on Twitter is a lag measure of abandoning all prior standards for temporary political convenience.
The felony convictions (by a jury of peers, per the Constitution) were about falsifying business records, which is lying, bearing false witness, uneven scales etc.
But Christians should not forget the reasons for those actions: to lie to us about heinous sexual and marital sin.
The single most demoralizing thing about the Trump-Evangelicalism Phenomenon is the repeated embrace and defense of very public lies by public Christians in pursuit of earthly power. Just a blatant and tragic abdication and dereliction.
I have four of them. And yes, they are wanted and worth whatever it costs. It’s never been easy. But it’s always been good.
It’s not healthy to check the price tag on a human being.
One of the weakest arguments for voting for Trump or trusting this movement is that these guys find him an appropriate representative of “Christian values” or remotely qualified to lead a “Christian nation.”
One of the strongest arguments for voting for Trump is what this article lays out— an administration filled with people who believe “that the country was founded as a Christian nation and that Christian values should be prioritized throughout government and public life,” that
Who is really doing this??
Not voting for Trump is very simply about integrity, consistency, truth, and values for the Christians who stand there.
Stop making things up for your lil culture war narrative.
For some Christians, not voting for Trump has become a form of accelerationism to hasten the judgement of God almost like Jonah wanting to see Nineveh destroyed.
@90s_was_peak
Received. I didn’t say this was (even a minor) sin. It’s an occasion to make the point that immodesty is more about excess and attention-seeking than most of the things usually communicated as “immodest” (policing women) - I said *this* was *closer* to what the Bible condemns.
You know what doesn’t dignify men?
Beards. Hats. Other cultural or preferential appearance-related things.
You know what does dignify men?
Being made in God’s image. Character. Christlikeness. The fruit of the Spirit. Servanthood. Surrender to the King.
Mother’s Day sermons: “Moms we honor you. You are special. Here’s a flower.”
Father’s Day sermons: “Buckle up because I’m about to open up a big can of how you’re failing as a dad. Here’s a slim Jim that cost .99”
Here’s the thing:
@drmoore
would actually do this if allowed, even though
@realDonaldTrump
publicly called him a nasty guy with no heart.

I'm a conservative Christian pastor's kid, and I didn't deconstruct. But I definitely did have to identify the syncretism and untangle my Christian faith from cultural presuppositions and political idolatry.
I'm a conservative Christian pastor's kid, and I didn't deconstruct. I studied my faith and it solidified without needing to be torn apart first.
Curious to know if any of you are in the same boat as me and why you didn't deconstruct?
The replies to this are amazing.
When you have to dismiss unqualified biblical imperatives to excuse your disposition toward your neighbors, you’re wrong. Period.
Paul listed “having a good reputation with outsiders” as a *qualification* for pastors (1 Tim. 3:7).
Even in the midst of a pagan society that mocked Christ and reviled Christians, Paul saw a good reputation as non-negotiable.
Ugh. Porn is not a "substitute" for adultery. According to Jesus, porn *is* adultery. Additionally, it's objectifying and using other human beings for one's own pleasure (often those who have been or are being abused). Finally, it's a gateway *to* adultery... /1
Voddie: if you don’t want Christian nationalism, what kind of nationalism do you want?
> I don’t want nationalism at all. It’s idolatrous.
Voddie: if you don’t want nationalism, what do you want? Globalism?
> Those aren’t the only two options. Philosophy by whataboutism 👎🏼
@gotfocus
I agree with it’s ok to have “nice things” - even if they’re ugly. I don’t think pastors should be intentionally calling attention to themselves by flaunting wealth through wardrobe, which is why I say this is “closer to” immodesty than the coverage policing we’re used to.
When you hear people, especially Christians, spreading rumors and conspiracy theories about the COVID vaccines, it might be good to remind them that excess deaths plummeted when vaccination peaked.
Truth > narrative.
Finally, the daily vaccination rate *peaked* in Spring 2021, right around the time excess deaths *nearly vanished* for months. If the vaccine were killing huge numbers of people, why did excess deaths plunge when vaccination peaked?

“TDS,” “orange man bad,” etc. are gaslighting techniques used to try and make us think we haven’t seen and heard the many overwhelmingly disqualifying things we have, in fact, seen and heard.
The conquest of Canaan happened.
It was commanded by God.
It was just and right.
It is not easy to understand.
It was/is never prescriptive beyond the event, but a unique demonstration of divine wrath & justice. God used pagan nations to judge Israel’s wickedness as well.
Nah. Never Trump Christians are simply opposed to the subjugation of biblical political theology (about which there is intramural disagreement) to a consequentialist power grab with a sexually perverse and abusive blasphemer as its champion.
Never Trump evangelicalism seems schizophrenically to 1) reject the idea of political theology because politics is not the gospel and also 2) get mad when people are fine with voting for politicians who aren’t meeting standards of gospel living or something. Biblicism I guess?
The perpetrators of many of the greatest evils in our society worship Christ. This trouble is that all people, like the Pharisee, go to church regularly, they pay their tithes and offerings, and observe religiously the various ceremonial requirements. The trouble...
I have been an extrovert all my life.
Some combination of ministry and the COVID era (?) has seemed to make me feel much more introverted.
Anyone else?
One thing I’d love to see develop in the church is a willingness to patiently bear w/ spiritual seekers and “deconstructors” and all manner of strugglers who profess to want to know God. Is it possible they are entering the kingdom ahead of the religiously certain & comfortable?
Yesterday three children I baptized as infants made public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and came to the Lord’s Table for the first time, including my beloved son, Isaac.
“To you and to your children…”
Thanks be to God!
Friends, please pray for my new friend. Evan. The Lord led him to wander into our church yesterday during our Easter kids’ event. I was able to share Christ w/and pray w/ him and give him a Bible. He definitely needs the hope only Jesus can give. Pray that the Lord would draw him
The contempt directed at Christian women, especially those who advocate for other women and sexual abuse survivors, by Christian men on this app is one of a few things that makes me want to permanently shut down my account. Disagreement isn’t the issue. Sin is.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump have officially secured enough delegates to become the Democratic and Republican nominees for President, cementing a rematch between the two in November.
If your right theology
allows abuse
& systems that protect abusers
under the guise of procedure
“decently & in order”
if it goes after victims & advocates
to protect institutions
at the expense of truth & justice
then you don’t actually believe

If I were a dispensational premillennialist w/ expectation of a personal antichrist…
A sexually immoral idolater able to capture swaths of establishment religion & politics seeking authoritarian power who had a big political “death” & possible “resurrection” would have me like
The *Church* both in heaven (triumphant) & on earth (militant) is a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession.

Their problem with that part is one reason this version of “CN” is overly “N” & deficiently “C.”
If you were acquainted with a guy who was a known liar and fraud in business; an open adulterer, a pervert, and a sexual abuser; a notoriously narcissistic, godless, dehumanizing blowhard…
Would you ask him to lead anything?
If my wife didn’t think and read about God and Scripture and theology independently from me (we also do this together), I would miss out on many redemptive conversations, helpful challenges, and growth in grace.
Pray for my little boy. He just got up with the most disastrous tummy sick I’ve had to clean up in quite a number of years. Might be a long night ahead.
This is an intentional narrative.
No one had to ally w/progressives to oppose Trump. We could easily & consistently do so from a theologically and politically conservative position. Those who supported him in the first place were the ones who shifted the goalposts - seismically.

Let’s be honest that these are all the same slogans of the Ku Klux Klan - another expression of American civil religion that was/is actually also mainly about white nationalism.
Please make your positive masculine role models local men who care about truth, both with a capital (Jesus) and lower case (objective, universal, moral) T and who care about you - not one who doesn’t know you or care about you and is only using you to build his platform & wealth.
The only eschatological position that sufficiently accounts for the “already” of the kingdom of God and the “not yet” of the kingdom of God that we find in the New Testament is Amillennialism.
