🚨🧵 WHO WANTS TO DRIVE A TRAIN? 🧵🚨
On Saturday 10th August and Saturday 28th September I am able to offer everybody who is interested what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to take the controls of preserved 313201 at Eastleigh Rail Works in Hampshire... /1.
🧵313201 Thread: Following on from many months of negotiation, time and effort between ourselves, Beacon Rail and Arlington Fleet Services, we are delighted to announce that ownership of 313201 has officially been transferred to us this afternoon.
🧵Having your own full-size train set, not bad for a man that lives on a council estate in Peckham..
Left school at 16 with below par grades, turned down a 6th form place at SFX and was in work by the following September. I’ve stood in the dole queue with everyone else.
Detailed discussions have been opened with Beacon Rail Leasing and Arlington Fleet Services to secure the first built Class 313 unit for preservation.
It is hoped that an agreement will be reached in order for the unit to be kept at Eastleigh Works in operational condition.
The first shunt movement of 365524 at the East Kent Railway. A huge debt of gratitude must go to our friends at Eversholt Rail Leasing and Sims Metals Management for facilitating its rescue.
This restored “Gatwick Express” train is in service every Saturday and Sunday until Xmas Eve at the East Kent Railway Trust. Our Xmas event is fully booked but if you just want to come for a ride, a limited number of 1st Class seats are available for £10pp.
🚨 The last working Class 313 in the country. A privately owned, preserved EMU moving under its own power.
Remember, if you would like to make a one-off donation or join the units’ growing list of supporters, you can do so here 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
🧵🚨 Last Vehicle of 508201 Preserved 🚨🧵
Following 18-months of careful planning and negotiation, the last surviving vehicle of unit 508201 (508001) is to return home to Kent. The 508/2 has direct links to the local area with plans in place for its restoration and future use.
The train and the crew that made the day (possibly the year) for 64 people today who all had the opportunity to drive a train. Huge thanks to
@bessbbe
@Codithss
and
@Coast_Conductor
. See the next group of drivers on 28th September!
The last of whats left of the Southern Region slam-door stock. Recently extracted from Meldon Quarry on the now long closed Dartmoor Railway. It is not very well, has one eye and is fortunate to have escaped a one way trip to Gillette.
Throwback to 10 years ago and one of the most unusual things I’ve been involved with. One of my trains on the James Bond stage at Pinewood Studios, Shepperton during the filming of “Last Passenger”.
So, a couple of weeks ago I donated some old train destination displays to a young autistic lad who was into his trains and wanted something to focus his mind on.
This morning I get a message “I got them working”.
Things like this make all my efforts worthwhile!
Class 421/8 motor coach 62364 arrives at the East Kent Railway. This will be part of the long running battery EMU project which will see a slam-door train run under its own power away from the 3rd rail. The whole project is being relocated here, so look out for more surprises!
In deepest Kent, a former Connex slam-door train has its 54-year old life expired windows replaced and its interior refreshed. These are modern spec double glazed units that will preserve the interior of the vehicles for years to come… /1
First fault diagnosed and rectified on 313201. The TPWS in the “B” cab decided not to self-test at the weekend. The test box was fitted and found the AWS bell defective. The bell was replaced, serial no’s noted down and we now have a correct self-test sequence. /1
Just had this brought to my attention - It is essential that you do not hand over any personal details to this individual and most certainly do not hand over any money. This person has no connection with me, my host railway or my vehicles whatsoever.
🚨🧵 313201 Update:
We have acquired a Stone Faiveley AMBR Pantograph, VCB and associated parts with a view to restoring 25kV AC capability. The unit is also due a "B" Exam which we need to tick off to ensure it is kept in "ready-to-run" condition.
PSA: Don’t buy a 50 year old slam-door train. Or any train in fact, unless you are an experienced vehicle builder - Its window rubber has turned to sponge and has to be replaced. They are such a PITA you can do two in a day!
Sunset on eleventy-million slam-doors in deepest Kent.
The time has come to assess the condition of what is held in storage in order to progress some long standing projects that otherwise will never come to fruition.
Its 24hours late but here is the last surviving 4-CIG Driving Trailer Second No. 76747 basking in sunny Kent. Due to the closure of the Dartmoor Railway this has been brought over for short term storage while 62364 is completed at Rampart Engineering. /1

Some photos 62364 taken during a visit to one of my contractors earlier today. I refuse to let this project die - but like everything its time and money.
After 2 years out of use, formed South West Trains MK1 70273 returned to service on the 27th Nov at the East Kent Railway as part of their "santa special" loco hauled set.
You support me, Ill save them. I am indebted to the East Kent Railway for accepting this vehicle for storage and thanks to Julian for keeping hold of it for so long at Dartmoor. Once refurbished, this coach will form part of my battery EMU project. /2
It will be a ticketed event which are priced at £27.50, funds from which will directly support the train and its future endeavours. Full instruction and supervision will be given (you'll have to put up with me!) along with safety briefing at the start of the day /2.

Here's a general overview of the plan to bring back long term withdrawn 76747 & 61742 to work with motor coach 62364 as part of the "Batteries Included" project. It'll provide a 3-car self-powered SR EMU unit with a driving cab each end.
Servicable and PRM compliant trains being sold and exported to Mexico because the DfT ordered train services to be cut. Literally hundreds more carriages have been broken up for scrap over the last 2 years because of this.
A fully compliant, recently-overhauled Mk.3 off for export on 16/10/23. PRM rules were brought in by the
@transportgovuk
. A fair decision. HOWEVER, now it’s being exported as DfT wants costs cut. Meanwhile, 4-car 220018 is today’s 1S51 12.27 Plymouth-Glasgow, an old HST job.
A huge thank you to everybody at
@UnipartRail
who have very kindly donated 17 pallets of redundant rolling stock spares that were due to be scrapped to the
@EastKentRailway
for further re-use on our restoration projects!
Not like I needed another project on my hands but I’ve had this former

PVL hibernating for a few years. Time to make it MOT fit again and tick off a good few faults!
