37 years ago this month, Cannon Whitby scored 130 points in 24 hrs. Scored 70 against Dyer Co on a Friday night and 60 vs Memphis Kirby on Saturday. No Three Point Line. Still to this day one of the most incredible moments I have ever witnessed in high school basketball.

History was my minor in college and thru my many travels over the years I like to visit different places. Yesterday before the basketball game at Camden, I visited the Patsy Cline Memorial where the plane crash took place because Sunday is the 60 year anniversary.
When I was guarding Jeff Sheppard in 1994 at Rupp Arena I was really thinking Sheppard's son is going to be awesome and number 41 is going to be the coach at Kentucky one day.🏀👍

1 year ago today I was getting ready to head to the Boys State Tournament when my Dad had a major accident. Instead I spent the next 12 days at Regional One Trauma in Memphis. Last week Dad rode with me to Murfreesboro. All your prayers worked. God is Good All the Time!🙏🙏
After 24 years of being the Voice of Milan Bulldog Basketball I have never been prouder of a basketball team. No quit in this Bulldog Team. Milan vs Chattanooga Tyner Thursday at 5:15. Go Dawgs🏀🏆
37 years ago today, Obion Central won its first Boys State Championship over Knoxville Austin East 64-59 at Vanderbilt in Nashville. Mr Basketball Cannon Whitby scored 45 points. Cannon averaged 39.4 points a game his senior year with no three point line.🏀🏆

Today we said goodbye to man that influenced my life for 40 years. My coach, my second father, my biggest supporter, and my friend! Thank You to all that said a prayer for the family. Rest now Coach! You did well!🙏🙏
26 years ago almost exactly to the date of Coach Whitby's passing we played in the most incredible high school basketball atmosphere against the number 1 team in the nation Oak Hill Academy at Union in Jackson. First time Oak Hill had trailed into the 4th quarter in over 3 yrs.🙏
25 years ago this coming Monday Night was a great night for the Peabody Golden Tide and the Obion Central Rebels. Peabody beat USJ in the Sub State and the Rebels beat Memphis Carver 102-73 at the Pit. Bad news! We both lost at State. Ron Mercer beat Peabody and Giles Co beat OC!
Many prayers up for South Gibson girls coach Carla Wyatt and her son Brett during this difficult time. Carla has been so great to work with for many years going back to Middle School. Put all Trust in the Almighty and he will see you through with comfort and grace.🙏🙏
Thank You to the Obion County School Board voting to have the basketball court at Obion County Central High School named after Hall of Fame Coach Jimmy Whitby. Cannot wait to see it.🙏
Happy 29th Birthday to Sportsbeat West Tennessee's Longest running Sports Show and one of the oldest in the state. Started in 1992 as a one night a week show by Dave McCulley. I have had the honor of hosting for the last 22 yrs. Hoping for 30 next year.🎂
Back where it all started. Hard to believe I have been broadcasting 24 yrs in the Peggy Haney Press box in Milan. Just went over my 1,000th broadcast this year in basketball and football. Love it as much now as I did when I started.🙏
Talk about things coming full circle. This me interviewing K.J. White at the Gibson Co Fair in 2004. Now 15 years later I interviewed K.J. twice at the State Tournament. She is now a State Champion. So proud of you and your teammates.🏆🏆🏆🏆

Boys Substate night is one of my favorite memories of basketball. Played in two winning both in 1991 vs Memphis Fairley and Deuce Ford and in 1994 vs Memphis Carver. Obion Central fans were like no other. They started lining up at noon and the gym was full at 3. Great Memories.
1 year ago tonight I was inducted into the Obion Co Sports Hall of Fame with my childhood idol and greatest high school basketball shooter ever Cannon Whitby.🏆
Been preaching officially one year. I still do not know why God choose me, but I have tried everyday of my life to give all the praise, honor, and glory unto his name. I am far from perfect, but the good thing is I don't have to be. Humbled to be able to spread the Gospel!🙏
Played my last high school game on this date March 18, 1994 for the Legendary Coach Jimmy Whitby at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. Believe me youngsters out there when they tell you these are the best times of your life. Believe them!!🏀🙏
My dad will be 74 next month. Has worked 7 days a week for the past 5 weeks hauling grain and loves it. I finally got him to take a day off today to be my guide for the day as my early birthday present.😂🛥️

Cannon Whitby did such a wonderful job officiating his dad's funeral today. Lots of memories, lots of laughs, lots of tears! I thank the Good Lord for giving him and his family the strength on this hard day. Cannon you continue to be my role model to this day. God Bless you!🙏🙏
Coach John Tucker, Bill Haney, Bob Parkins, and Charlie Reagan would be so proud of this new stadium in Milan. Coach Tucker built Milan into a state powerhouse, Bill Haney and Bob Parkins gave the Bulldogs the best coverage around and Charlie was an unbelievable supporter.🏈
I took this picture 5 years ago at the 30 year reunion for the 1986 State Champion Team at Obion Central with Coach Whitby attending. This was his last appearance at the school. Tonight this floor becomes Jimmy Whitby Court. So honored to be asked to attend.🏀🙏
Taking a night off from broadcasting Friday night to go to Obion Central to attend the Naming of the Court Ceremony for Hall of Fame Coach Jimmy Whitby. Hard to believe Coach will be gone a year Dec 13th. Blessed to have had you as my Coach and 2nd Father.🙏
My last picture with Coach Whitby at the Pit in Troy at the 2005 Alumni Game to close down one of the most electric gyms you would ever watch a game at. 2,000 people were there. The late great Jim Cawley would say on the radio that they are hanging from the rafters at the Pit. 🙏
Officially starting 21 yrs at 93.7 FM. Worked for 4 different owners in 3 different towns, 7 different formats, and held every position known(some twice). Special thanks to Steve Hemann and Paul Tinkle who I have worked for and learned a lot from in those 21 yrs. So Blessed!🤲
March 5, 1994. Boys SubState game at the Pit in Troy. Obion Central 102 Memphis Carver 73. At 12 noon a huge line was outside the gym. At 3PM the doors were opened and the gym was full for 4 hours before Tip Off. TV's were set up all over the school. I miss those days!🏀🏆
Sad to see the news the Mid South Coliseum will be demolished. Drove by there back in November. Watched Andre Turner and Keith Lee, Jerry Lawler and Monday night wrestling, concerts and rodeos there for over 30 years. Thanks for the memories. You will be missed.

This picture of Coach Jimmy Whitby was taken 30 years ago tonight in the Boys SubState at the Pit in Troy between Obion Central and Memphis Fairley with Deuce Ford. It was a shootout that we won 93-90. Went on to the AAA State Semifinals losing to Science Hill. Great Times!!🏀🏆
Got a nice surprise last night at the Grizzlies game. It was Memphis Wrestling night. Great to see two legends like Jerry "The King" Lawler and Dave Brown. That brings back a lot of Saturday morning and Monday night memories.👑👑👑

Athletes keep your head up. So sorry for this unprecedented event cancelling the Girls and Boys Basketball State Championships and Spring Fling. All your communities and schools Thank You for your Hard Work and Dedication. Good Luck and Be Safe.🙏
We did the Macgyver thing at Memphis Kirby tonight. Just give us wire and duct tape and we will bring you the game.🤣Asked Owens for the 25th anniversary of his Sub State game at BTW Monday when we go back to Memphis if he wanted to make a loop around the gym. He said No!😂😂😂
Love this photo before the Memphis Football game tonight. Old school Memphis Wrestling with Jerry "The King" Lawler vs Doug Gilbert with Jerry Calhoun refereeing and Dave Brown announcing. Just like old times!! 🏈👑

29 years ago today in front of 4,000 at Union University in Jackson, Obion Central fell to number 1 Oak Hill Academy 63-56. We led going into the 4th quarter making it the first time they had trailed in 3 yrs. So many people still bring that game up to me today. Great Memories🏀

Starting my 22nd year at WTKB 93.7. Worked for 4 different owners, 9 different formats in 3 different towns, held every position some twice, and called numerous state championships. Grateful for my mentors Bill Haney, Jim Cawley, Paul Tinkle, and Steve Hemann. Blessed!🙏
So grateful and blessed for my church family on this Easter Sunday. Became a Deacon about a year ago and it is the most rewarding experience I will ever have. Visiting hospitals and consoling those that have lost loved ones. I Thank God everyday for this direction in my life.🙏⛪️
2021 was a blessed year for me. I started preaching some early in the year and have now been the interim pastor for the last 8 months. I don't know what God has in store for me in 2022, but I sure am excited to find out. Have a Happy and Blessed New Year to all of you!🙏
Pray for my church members as we had a member killed in a car accident this morning. We praise God that she had a strong relationship with Christ and is now spending eternity in Heaven. 🙏
The aftermath at Reelfoot Lake is unreal. Was just there yesterday morning walking the dogs and to see it today was heartbreaking. Prayed with a family that lost everything. Keep the all the affected families in your thoughts and prayers!🙏

Tomorrow will be the 4th anniversary of the passing of TSSAA Hall of Fame Coach Jimmy Whitby. A man that changed West TN High School Basketball forever. Not a night goes by when I go to a gym still that someone brings up Coach Whitby, Cannon Whitby, or Obion Co fans. Miss you🙏
Prayers for Union City, TN native and WWE Hall of Famer Koko B Ware who is in the hospital battling some medical issues. 🙏

Farewell to Mike Shannon this weekend. Jack Buck and Mike were my childhood. Had a chance to meet Mike several times at Cardinal Media Days and interview him twice. Being a radio guy, Mike is one of the last of the Legends that made Baseball on the radio. Thank You Mr Shannon!🎙️
Happy 60th Birthday to "The Legend" Steve Hemann. I have had the pleasure of working with Steve for over 20 years. He is one of my mentors and I owe him so much. Greatest guy you will ever know. Happy Birthday News Hound!🎂🎂
Stroll down memory lane. This is a picture I took in 2016 when the Gibson Co Lady Pioneers finished runner-up in the state tournament to South Greene. The game before Gibson Co ended Middleton's 69 game win streak. Good luck Lady Pioneers this week!🏀🏆

and I played at Rupp Arena against Rick Pitino's Kentucky Wildcats. Even though the score was not in our favor we both had good games. By the way for the record Walter McCarty did not block this shot in the picture. I hit both my 3 pointers.🤣🏀
Today has been an extremely difficult day and night calling basketball, but I was at peace knowing that Coach Whitby's presence was there with me at a gym on a Friday night where we spend many together over the years! Thank You for all the kind words tonight!🙏🙏
