I'm excited to give a talk at the 14th International Conference on Bayesian Nonparametrics (BNP 14) this June! I will present some of my recent work w/ my student on scalable Bayesian survival analysis. It's my first time attending a BNP conference so I'm looking forward to it!

My newest paper "Two-step mixed-typed multivariate Bayesian sparse variable seleciton with shrinkage priors" (with Shao-Hsuan Wang and Hsin-Hsiung Huang) is now available online! Read at the link below if interested.

Submitting grant proposal in ~7 weeks on statistical inference for AI/deep learning. We'll see how it goes. 🤞 It has a Bayesian component so I may finally begin to merge my research on DL & my research on Bayesian stats (hoping to do that regardless of whether grant gets funded)

Congratulations to my PhD student Zile Zhao for successfully defending his PhD dissertation "Methods and Applications for Bayesian Semiparametric Survival Analysis"! Zile is my second PhD advisee to graduate. Next month, he will join the Moffitt Cancer Center as a postdoc.

@nilslidhjortuio One of the papers from the thesis has been accepted for publication. We are working on writing up the other two chapters as papers, might post them to arXiv later.

In addition to my student Zile's final defense next Tue., I'm also looking forward to my student Sijian Fan's PhD proposal, "Methods and Applications for Statistical Matrix Completion," next Mon., Jan. 13! 2 students reaching major milestones in their PhD journeys back-to-back!

My PhD student Sijian Fan will do his PhD proposal "Methods and Applications for Statistical Matrix Completion" is in 11 days! Making some final edits to the written proposal now. Two papers from Sijian's research on sparse matrix factorization/completion will be submitted soon!

Love to hear from my readers! I've received a number of e-mails from folks over the years (TT job market candidates and prospective grad students), & it always brightens my day! :) The job market is changing a lot (based on my observation), so I may need to update the post later.

This research was also my first foray in the world of causal inference. We wrote a paper on treatment switching in RCTs, an issue which complicates estimation of the true causal effect of the treatment. Very interesting stuff! I very much enjoyed learning it. :)

The 2nd PhD thesis I've supervised, "Methods and Applications for Bayesian Semiparametric Survival Analysis" by Zile Zhao (PhD '25), is complete! I learned a lot alongside my student about Bayesian survival analysis and distributed Bayesian inference using divide-and-conquer MCMC

My second PhD student Zile Zhao is nearly done writing his dissertation "Methods and Applications for Bayesian Semiparametric Survival Analysis"! We will be ready to submit this shortly after the new year. Hoping to submit two of the chapters as papers to journals next year.
