@EGrimalkin1967 @BigBenInLondon @ObnoxiousFumes2 @craigh64 @jakeisacrazy1 @TheChiefNerd So there is a row key already? Your solution would mean that all systems and even all tables inside the sytem where SSN is used, have to implement this retired field and associated logic.

@EGrimalkin1967 @BigBenInLondon @ObnoxiousFumes2 @craigh64 @jakeisacrazy1 @TheChiefNerd Additionally, what happens, when there show up two people with the same SSN? Even if you can fix this, which is mostly not the case, you need some temporary solution, as you have to still register both people in the system.

@timl987 @jakeisacrazy1 @TheChiefNerd Allow letters. SSN is not handled as a number anyway. Even if it would need some fixes in checks, there wouldn't be big problems with storing.

@BigBenInLondon @EGrimalkin1967 @ObnoxiousFumes2 @craigh64 @jakeisacrazy1 @TheChiefNerd Not really. This wouldn't be a simple composite key, but it would have logic attached to it. I personally wouldn't do this on database, but in application business logic. SSN can't be a database key anyway.

@behaynes1965 @ScottyCiao @TheChiefNerd I have only looked at COBOL outside of work, but I have worked with various languages. Anyway, sql databases can certainly be connected to COBOL programs Problem is usually with the history of the system. The system needs probably a good rewrite, at least partitioning and partial

@EGrimalkin1967 @ObnoxiousFumes2 @craigh64 @jakeisacrazy1 @TheChiefNerd Not a good idea - then you have a composite key, where only certain combinations are unique, which would need some nonstandard code ... Etc.

@jakeisacrazy1 @TheChiefNerd My practical experience is that this kind of numbers shouldn't be the primary keys. But there should be duplicate check anyway.

@ScottyCiao @behaynes1965 @TheChiefNerd COBOL can use SQL, there is no real dependency between programming language for logic and db storage system.

@NOELreports I have heard that Tucker Carlson is clinically retarded. This video seems to confirm it?
