Proud Father of 3. Husband. Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre. Parliamentary Secretary for Veterans Affairs & Associate Minister of National Defence.
The treatment of
#PunjabFarmers
is deplorable. Farmers are the strength and backbone of the Punjab and they deserve to be treated with respect.
I stand in solidarity with the
#PunjabFarmers
.
There has been a video circulating calling Hindu Canadians “to have repudiated your allegiance to Canada…and to go to India.” I condemn this statement and any hate towards Hindu-Cdns. Such speech has no place in Canada.
Congratulations to BC’s very own, Arjan Bhullar, for becoming the ONE MMA Heavyweight World Champion! We’re incredibly proud of your achievement; and look forward to seeing you continue to represent the South Asian community as you dominate on the world stage of MMA.
Horrified that eight people, including four farmers, were killed on Sunday as violence erupted during a

.
It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the victim’s families. May those responsible be brought to justice.
Deeply concerned about news reports coming out of

, India. The suspension of internet services and restricted gatherings of more than 4 people in some areas. We are closely following the situation.
June 1984 is a time that Sikhs will never forget. The Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, was attacked and thousands were killed. Today, on the 39th anniversary, we pray for the lives lost, and to have those responsible be held accountable.
#NeverForget1984
1/2 This morning,
@JustinTrudeau
& our Liberal team announced that we are moving
#ForwardForEveryone
by training 1,000 new firefighters to ensure we have the support we need in future fire seasons.
During our emergency debate, I asked my colleague
@Irek_K
his thoughts on if every party has condemned foreign interference by India, yet one party is silent, does this mean that foreign interference only matters when it affects Conservative votes? Not when lives are at stake?
Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, was stormed and attacked on one of the most sacred days of the year for Sikhs. While we will never forget 1984, we continue to pray that places of worship remain such: a place for prayer, reflection, and refuge.
Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
addressed the House and all Canadians regarding the tragic death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen. Canada will work to pursue all avenues to catch the perpetrators of his death.
Today I rose in House to speak on the 40th anniversary of 1984 and the thousands of innocent Sikh lives that were brutally taken in this state-sponsored attack. We will

The holiday season is a time for giving – and also a time for giving back to those in need. Once again, Guru Nanak Free Kitchen & West Coast Home and Truss collected hundreds of toys for the Surrey Christmas Bureau. Thank you to everyone that made this possible 🎅🎄🇨🇦
I am disappointed to see that one of my signs was defaced, yesterday in
#SurreyCentre
. This behaviour is intolerable. I deplore this sort of anti-Semitic behaviour, I know my neighbours will join me in calling it out.
Let’s move forward with kindness and constructive discussion.
April is over and with it brings the end of
#SikhHeritageMonth
. From the worlds largest Vaiskahi Nagar Kirtan Parade outside of India being right here in Surrey, to
@diljitdosanjh
selling out 54,000 seat stadiums, Punjabi Sikhs are making history everyday in Canada. 🇨🇦
One year ago today, Surrey lost a father, husband and community leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He was brutally murdered in cold blood at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara on his way home for a Father’s Day dinner with his family.
37 years ago, the Indian army attacked Sri Harimandir Sahib, known as the "Golden Temple", and 40 other Gurdwaras across India. Innocent Sikhs that gathered for prayer were met with soldiers, tanks and artillery. 1/3
June 2024 marks 40 years since the state sponsored attack on the most holiest Sikh site, Harmandir Sahib, the Akal Takht, and 40 other gurdwaras across Punjab, India. 40 years later, we continue to remember and pray for those lives that were brutally taken. Never Forget 1984.
Saddened and shocked to see what happened at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey this Sunday. While this is an active RCMP investigation, I encourage anyone that knows anything about it to contact the RCMP as they take steps to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
@PierrePoilievre
instead of being on
#TeamCanada
against any foreign interference, specially when it comes to the assassination of a Canadian Citizen, you have shown your true colors that pleasing a foreign actor is more important than protecting the rights and life of Canadians.
Kerry Lynne your crocodile tears won’t do much. Where were you on the Emergency debate on India’s inv’t in Mr Nijjer’s death? You,nor any BC
@CPC_HQ
were present.
@PierrePoilievre
did a 180 & wants to see the evidence, but won’t take the oath to see it. Canadians know the truth.
I again express my deepest sympathies to the family of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, murdered in June in my community of Surrey.
These allegations must be investigated and justice delivered.
Today, I called out all four Liberal Surrey MPs, including MP Sukh Dhaliwal (Surrey Newton)
DSGMC in association with World Punjabi Organization succeeded in bringing 182 Afghan Hindu-Sikh migrants to India from Afghanistan in a chartered flight today. We are also taking care of their stay arrangements in India for the time being 🙏🏻
It’s a very alarming thing that another democracy would take an attempt to assassinate the citizens of two different democracies, particularly those that are allies of theirs — Canada and the United States.
@jazzyb
is not only a talented Canadian artist but someone who raises issues dear to his heart. Free speech is a pillar of democracy and should never be muzzled. Twitter should Un-block his account immediately.
After PM
@JustinTrudeau
stated that credible evidence indicated that the Indian Government was involved in the murder Hardeep S Nijjar, myself and many other MPs requested an Emergency Debate on the matter tonight.
#NeverForget1984
is not just a hashtag.
This week in 1984, the streets of Delhi turned into an unimaginable hell. State-sponsored organized mobs raped women on the streets, put tires on the necks of innocent men and lit them on fire, all while the police & politicians stood by.
Thanks to our six-member team from Canada that joined other members of the Khalsa Aid family in providing thousands of meals daily to Ukrainian refugees at the Warsaw Expo this week.
These volunteers came from across Canada and we’re so humbled by their dedication.
1984 is a year ingrained in the minds of Sikhs across the world. 39 years ago, state-sponsored organized mobs brutally attacked and murdered innocent Sikhs in the streets of Delhi. Victims and their families continue to wait for justice to this day.

Another historic announcement has taken place today - PM Justin Trudeau, Premier John Horgan and the City of Surrey announced that the second phase of the Expo Line Extension from Surrey to Langley is being funded!
Protecting Canadians from foreign interference is a top priority. Congratulations to
@sukhdhaliwal
as this important motion, M-112, has officially passed in the House.
Canadians have the right to feel safe and secure in their communities.
My motion, M-112, will hold to account any person or agents of a foreign state undermining our democratic institutions, engaging in acts of violence, or intimidating diaspora communities in Canada.
Over 1400 Israelis have died, 220 hostages are held by Hamas and over 7,700 Palestinians (more than half women and children) have been killed. The world must unite to push for a halt, ceasefire, humanitarian pause (I don’t care what you call it) immediately. Urging for Peace ☮️
NEW: we are temporarily lifting the 20-hour-per-week cap on the number of hours eligible post-secondary international students are allowed to work off-campus from November 15, 2022, until December 31, 2023.
More information here:
This group of international students and new Canadians started cooking and serving hot tea after the hurricane ripped through Sydney.
And they haven’t stopped.
They have served several thousands.

I want to again apologize for my role in recent unfortunate events. Moving forward, I will be exercising better judgment. As I don't want to distract from the good work of the Pacific Caucus, I will be stepping down as caucus chair.
Today I joined PM

to commit to making childcare more affordable in

. With our announcement of funding and the support of the BC government, we are now on track to soon have $10-a-day childcare!
Thank you, Surrey Centre! To my incredible volunteers, campaign team, friends, neighbours, and family, this is all because of you. I’m honoured that you’ve put your trust in me once again.
Now the real work begins. Let’s get to it.
Last month, Surrey’s own Buneet Bisla was crowned as the Canadian light-heavyweight champion. I’ve watched Buneet work tirelessly at his dad’s gym Bisla Martial Arts for years now, and it was my pleasure to rise in House today to speak on his incredible achievements. 💪🏽🇨🇦
We just announced that the
#GovernmentofCanada
will be banning all crude oil imports from

due to the unprovoked actions and further violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
1/2 From meeting Afghan Sikh and Hindu refugees in India, to welcoming the first group to arrive in Canada, I'm proud that our government has announced today that we will now be resettling the remaining families.
Thank you Surrey Centre for putting your trust and faith in me once again. It's an incredible honour to serve this community.
I'll continue to fight for our fair share in Ottawa and be a progressive voice for our neighbours. I'm ready to get to work.
Happy Sikh Heritage Month!
April 1st marks the beginning of
#SikhHeritageMonth
. There are almost one million Sikhs in Canada, and their role in Canadian society is impactful. This month, I encourage you all to take this opportunity to learn more about the Sikh faith!
Congratulations
@GordieHogg
— looking forward to welcoming another passionate, hardworking British Columbian to the Pacific Caucus to help build a stronger and brighter Canada to call home.

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
Today, Canadians from coast to coast to coast are celebrating our beautiful country, its diversity, and our rich history. From my family to yours, Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦🍁
Thank you to the residents of Surrey Centre for putting your confidence in me for another 4 years.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our amazing volunteers who have worked so hard.
I will continue to make sure your voice is heard in Ottawa!
I want to extend early Happy 100th Birthday wishes to Fred Arsenault, who is hoping to receive 100 cards to celebrate the milestone on March 6th.
Mr. Arsenault, thank you for your service and your card is on its way!
@CAFinUS
June 1984 remains a time that no Sikh will never forget as the generational pain caused persists to this day. No place of worship for people of any faith should ever be violated in such a way, and the innocent lives taken will never be forgotten.

Today my Liberal colleagues, the Right Honourable Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
and I are in Vancouver to celebrate Vaisakhi! Thank you Khalsa Diwan Society Vancouver and all of the volunteers for organizing this year’s Nagar Kirtan!
Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
spoke earlier today about the
@WorldSikhOrg
’s deeply concerning reports that Sikh RCMP officers are facing discrimination at work.
It is necessary for the RCMP to provide adequate alternative arrangements in a timely manner for Sikh officers.
Earlier today, I participated in a joint meeting of the Foreign Affairs and National Defence Committees. We discussed the situation in Ukraine, NATO and other shared interests.
Extremely concerning to hear about another Sikh student being attacked in Kelowna earlier this week. This is the second attack in the last few months in the central Interior. I strongly condemn all acts of hate crimes, and hope that justice is brought to the student.
Members of the Sikh caucus met with Minister
@marcomendicino
last night regarding the tragic incident at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara.
We will continue to work closely with law enforcement to solve this crime, and protect Canadians.
Last night, Sikh caucus members met with Public Safety Minister

He assured us that our government is working closely with law enforcement to solve this crime and protect the Sikh community & all Canadians
I join

for taking the time to hear from caucus and the immigration challenges facing our constituents and working with us to resolve them.
#SurreyBC
A lot of work has been done on immigration to adapt our ways of doing things and continue to welcome despite the pandemic. It was a pleasure to discuss this today with my caucus colleagues.
Thank you
@marcomendicino
for addressing this issue. A full investigation into this incident is needed. Sikhs have been stereotyped and incidents like this should never happen again.
Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – an opportunity to come together to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and the ongoing impacts on Survivors, their families & communities, as well as commit to continuing the hard work to build a better future for all.

Our team is mourning the loss of one of our own today. Jaspreet Pandher spent several years on the team, serving Canadians and dedicating himself to building a better country. He worked hard, spoke thoughtfully, and always knew exactly how to make people laugh.
Immigration has always been integral to Canada’s economic recovery and growth as a nation.
Thanks to the great work that’s being done by Minister

“We’ve sprinted out of the gates,” Mendicino said. A new Trudeau government strategy to attract more permanent residents appears to be working, putting the country on pace to exceed its goal of admitting 401,000 new residents this year. Via
