@PeterMoskos There is a story around each of these 150 shooting events (in the past 24 hours). There is a shooter, a gun (frequently now modified for full auto), an intended victim and sadly some unintended victims. A few will be homicides, more will be victims and all of connections.

@CPD1617Scanner Tragic situation all around but they weren’t shooting at cars. They were shooting at people that happen to be in a car.

@Andrefor40th There is no technology that can possibly know when a shooting results in a GSW victim. And don’t residents deserve a police response when guns are criminally fired in their neighborhoods? No response = less safety.

@Andrefor40th @williamrawlss Gunshot Detection is a “line of sight response tool” in the context of 80-90% of gunfire goes unreported by traditional 911. This leads to increased evidence recovery and GSW victims getting life saving interventions.

@Andrefor40th @williamrawlss Seriously, just “stand on business” as being an defunder of police or making a business case that police response to gunfire has unintended consequences/costs. We can respectfully disagree-But don’t make *ish up.

@Andrefor40th @williamrawlss One of many quotes I had in an interview as far back as 2016-.“I would strongly suggest that the real magic happens once an agency gets the alert. What do they do with that? Technology by itself can’t defeat gun violence. It requires a much more deliberate and broad strategy.”.

ShotSpotter is a technology that is designed to detect, locate and alert on criminal gunfire where traditional 911 FAILS 80-90% of the time. As a tool, it is a force multiplier to improve response times and help save the lives of critical gunshot wound victims. #SavingLives.

@CPD1617Scanner What an awful experience to see your loved one dead by a self inflicted gunshot. Horrible. I hope the local community wraps their collective arms around this family and keeps them in prayer.

@greg_doucette Would *fabricating gunshots* when requested by police be tampering with evidence? Literally speaking of course.

Gunshot detection is an automatic and digitized 911 call for service which is faster, more accurate and more effective than any unvetted manual analog 911 call. #FACTS. #doingworkthatmatters

@PeterMoskos Puzzling. I suspect some of the more recent & vocal pushback comes from the delta variant of abolish/defund the police movement. Since the defund the police strategy not going to happen, let’s pick on some of the tools they use - build a narrative of costly, scary & ineffective.

@CPD1617Scanner @shotspotter I have not seen any cogent analysis to date on why police AND the communities they are sworn to serve and protect would collectively be better off NOT KNOWING ABOUT CRIMINAL GUNFIRE. someone please explain. #befuddled.

@SPOTNEWSonIG The round count has been increasing as shooters integrate full auto switches to their crime guns.

Hardening soft targets require a layered security approach designed to deter/detect/delay and ultimately deny penetration. The @shotspotter *dome of protection* is an ideal perimeter based detection solution.

@PeterMoskos Being saying this since the beginning. And it is even worse when violence takes place and there is no LE response which signals that violence is acceptable and normal.

@SPOTNEWSonIG Violent Crime is a complex issue that requires and/all vs either/or. And re-investing in under-invested communities is a should do even if there is no immediate or even long term deterrence to violent crime. Simple table stakes.

You can't reduce or prevent gun violence until you first de-normalize it. @shotspotter @davidchipman @politico.

@PeterMoskos @SteveBellow So let’s ask the question what happens when violence like that is normalized in children- do we think the impact of that is? And this is doubly awful if they have a perception that society doesn’t think they are worthy of being protected. #endrant.

@CPD1617Scanner This is profoundly tragic and a difficult to understand what would motivate someone to do this. Another sad day for Chicago. RIP Queen.

Why are fast First Responder interventions to GSW victims so critical? . Severe bleeding from a major artery can lead to unconsciousness within 1-3 minutes and death within 3-5 minutes without an intervention. #timeistissue.

@PeterMoskos It fails to acknowledge that the vast majority of victims of gun violence are young men of color so the racist troupe is a bit befuddling. There is also independent as well as anecdotal data that suggests gun violence goes largely unreported, therefore normalized. #astrangefebate.

@JoeGiacalone @SteveBellow It wasn’t immediate until the *wrong* people began to *potentially* experience violent crime. And by wrong people I mean those that enjoy a state of bliss by circumstance vs those that we reflexively send our thoughts and prayers to because they might live *over there*.

@jacksonpCTU @risesechicago Respectfully, those are gunshots, NOT loud noises. In fact, the alert includes a recording snippet that allows dispatchers and responding police to triple confirm it before they dispatch resources. You should spend 20 minutes in a SDSC room on a Friday night to educate yourself.

@ZaidJilani Correction - shooting at cars implies parked + unoccupied cars. The correct description is, shooting at motorists or people driving by in cars. Important distinction as there were shooting victims involved vs simple property damage.

@Andrefor40th Disagree here and yes I could be considered bias but the overwhelming facts and circumstances are strong proof points that ShotSpotter is the best at gunshot detection.
