This is why responding quickly and precisely to gunfire is so critical. There is no, as in zero of a cogent of an argument to prevent gunshot detection to be used by first responders in order to save lives and protect communities.

@PeterMoskos There is a story around each of these 150 shooting events (in the past 24 hours). There is a shooter, a gun (frequently now modified for full auto), an intended victim and sadly some unintended victims. A few will be homicides, more will be victims and all of connections.

This should debunk the trope that ShotSpotter’s coverage is racist vs covering the areas where most of the harm and victimization is happening. Also, how many of the 71 GSW’s victims had different outcomes due to the fast and precise response of CPD?.

How is it that a technology that identifies and alerts on criminal gunfire racially biased? . There is no personal identifying aspects associated with the alert; including race, gender, age, height, weight etc. And, Why doesn’t the press, press on that blatantly false claim?.

The vast majority of residents WANT police to respond to gunfire when they can HEAR and know EXACTLY where the gunfire took place. Does that response solve root causes of GV? Of course not, but defibrillators don’t solve the root cause of heart disease…but still a good idea.

The term *ShotSpotter*’s etymology stems from two distinct parts:. 1. **Shot** – A reference to gunfire or the sound produced when a gun is fired. 2. **Spotter** – A term typically used to describe someone or something that identifies or locates a specific object or event.

Community gunfire exhibits the law of concentration — in that it tends be concentrated during very specific times, in specific places involving very few specific individuals. This suggests that successful deterrence strategies and interventions are hyper local and bespoke.
