My new uni is so weird. It's a game dev school. You'd expect people there to enjoy game dev. But yet, I don't see a lot of people who are thrilled about coding or enjoy making games. How? I'm gonna have a lot of trouble finding my place this year I feel like :(

My entire life, I was always connected to video games. I picked up my first Nintendo DS when I was 4 years old, it never left me since. I grew up playing games, and still am today. My father is a software engineer and I was always fascinated by what he made.

After that, I switched to DirectX11 fully to try and get as far as I could in graphics... and miserably failed. At it's peak, my engine was using up 99% both CPU and GPU just to render a model... here's an ancient video I found from the engine though :

So, when I was 11, I put my foot in the door. I wrote my first ever program in C. I enrolled in a computer science class high schoolers would take, and I learned the basics of C in a year, though I was still very much rough on the edges.

2- You still make progress even if you take time, it's about consistency. It's okay to take breaks. It's okay to feel down. As long as you get things done at the end. 3- With enough dedication and with the right resources, graphics programming is something everyone can learn.

(And I'm saying this as a person who sucks at math... I skipped steps when it comes to math and regret it heavily. Study linear algebra well and don't end up like me!)

GPU DEBUGGING: A GPU debugger allows you to step into your code and capture every API call that your program makes. This allows you to easily debug model data, shader data, pipeline state etc. - RenderDoc (easiest) - NVIDIA NSigh - Microsoft PIX

Glad to be back and implementing nice stuff in the engine. I've definitely procrastinated a lot and have been busy dealing with personal life and also university... but now that I'm in a good place, it'll be way easier to get stuff done. Never give up on your dreams! You're gmi!

OpenGL: - Easiest API out of them all - Cross-platform - Falls off when it comes to modern rendering (no hardware raytracing, GPU driven rendering is behind compared to other APIs) - Best resource:

Vulkan: - Most verbose and difficult API out of them all - Cross-platform - Offers every modern GPU feature (usually accessible after D3D12 gets it) - Not beginner friendly at all - Best resource:

Graphics programming is a very difficult field but I believe everyone can succeed with enough dedication. Start with something simple (OpenGL and your language of choice) and make a simple project (maybe render a 3D model with some lights, shadows, and anti-aliasing).
