This is a tweet of appreciation for
@culturedcode
Things — a 5 year old _all-new_ app that is still seen as the top reference for great design across platforms.
5 years. Here's some of my favorite UI details:
🤯
"If a user has an Apple Watch paired (…), the iPhone will disable the always-on display once it detects the user has left the room without their phone."
I've also pushed a very small update to my website, and its chaotic layout (please, don't look at the code 🙈).
That green screen is starting to pay off (
@marisamorby
💚).
I’ve been rejected from:
• Apple
• Facebook
• Figma
• Framer
• Pitch
• Spotify
• (…)
Some have left me truly heartbroken, and I’d love to help normalize this.
I made a tiny little thing over the weekend…
🪐Mac OS X Remastered Wallpapers (Galaxy Edition):
Classic desktop pictures modernized in 6K and P3 Color Gamut

I accidentally built another tiny tiny macOS utility that probably no one else would find useful.
It’s an app that hides the Dock when you’re on your laptop, and shows it when connected to an external display.
Would anyone download this?
We're using
@alongvideo
as a new format for our iOS release notes, hopefully slightly more engaging and we can surface it naturally in the product 👀
A "Release Notes" tape, with each update having its own clip.

One of the few things keeping me sane nowadays — spending the day over-designing this poor empty state:
• Randomized animations
• Parallax effect on motion
• You can “boink” the bubbles
• Soft haptics on “boinks”
Here's a UI interaction that ultimately proved to be too expensive to implement, so we ended up scrapping it: holding the edge to fast-forward with a VHS/tape effect.
Still think it's cool ⭐
📣 Brand new Apple Human Interface Guidelines! 📣
That’s right, we’ve completely redesigned the HIG to be more cross-platform, easier to search, and completely reorganized from high level design principles down to low-level component guidance.🧵
I was lucky enough to get a new laptop over the holiday break and for the first time in years I decided to set it up "as new". Here's a list of defaults I absolutely need to change, otherwise my Mac feels broken:
🧵
Felt inspired by the legendary betacoin UI interaction (by
@littlenono
and team) and I'm prototyping a similar easter egg for
@alongvideo
public beta — this might never see the light of day but might be fun to share 📼
🚀 Hand Mirror v2 is out now!
It's a complete rewrite and it includes Smart Windows, custom positioning, window masks, Notch Trigger, alternate icons, and a lot more.
Check the thread for some of my favorite little Design Details™ and Easter Eggs 🧵
Guess who's in the App Store? 👀
Today we're launching
@alongvideo
in Early Access — I'm excited and terrified of what you will all think.
Go download it and let me know!

Continuity Camera is not a bad option:
‣ Seamless integration, with no noticeable lag
‣ Works in portrait orientation (with a strong crop)
‣ Has a new "Studio Light" mode that highlights your face
This is my last week at
@Netlify
💚
After 4.5 years, it’s time for me to say goodbye to the best team that I’ve had the privilege to work with, and I’m so incredibly proud of everything we’ve built together.
This might be obvious to some, but I keep finding folks who don’t know this yet:
Did you know that you can swipe on Edit Menus to reveal more options, instead of tapping that little arrow?
Ok, last thing for today: I've added a tape-sliding-in animation on drop, with sound effects, and start playing the onboarding video (turn on the sound for this one 🔊)
I find it curious that almost no tech reviewer uses the "hole in the stand for cable management", and just have cables dangling in these otherwise immaculate product shots 🤔
Back in 2015 I've added a list of "People I'd Like to Meet" to my website with the hopes of one day meeting some of my heroes.
It's really special when I get to check one off, or add new ones 💚
I've built a website with just HTML, CSS, and a bit of JavaScript — no package managers, no setting up local servers, no static site generators… Oh and I used a single native Mac app, made by

What year is this?
✨Life update:
Today I get to scratch "work with friends" off my bucket list as I join
@soffes
and
@superbryntendo
as their Founding Designer at
@alongvideo
.
Glass (
@tryglass
) is out now — a beautifully designed and focused experience around photography!
I'm "@ Rafa" there, if you'd like an invite reply with a photo you'd like to post there, and I'll send one to my two favorites ✨
