Just because she's tiny doesn't mean you can pick her up all the time!
Maybe a bit.
WEC/FE/ELMS/Iron Dames/Doriane Pin fan account. Sometimes there are stats.
It occurs to me that Doriane might be picking up a few new fans over this weekend, and maybe they'd appreciate learning about some career highlights to this point. So here's a 🧵of some things you might want to watch...
You might think this is a standard empty corporate gesture but consider how much work it must have been to find this many Porsches that aren't some shade of grey.
Still slightly surprised that McLaren have never seemed that interested in building a Hypercar since it would have allowed Zak Brown to sign at least six more drivers.

- Lose Le Mans and the championship because a GT car didn't see you in a slow zone at night and rear- ended you
- Paint the car matte black

So I think this is where motorsport fans in the UK are at with TV coverage at the moment? Curious how it is with other countries and also what I've missed/got wrong here...
In practice, the amount a CEO has to do with crisis response in a large organisation is usually minimal. However, "not making it worse by being seen driving a GT3 car during the crisis" is probably a good contribution...

Ollie Bearman showing up for a single F1 race in a car more than capable of scoring points means the drivers at the back are potentially faced with the prospect of finishing 21st out of 20 drivers...
@disgracecars
I feel like if we did get it it'd be more like men's association football where anyone you've actually heard of doesn't show up or is ineligible.
OK so, brief serious talk, what happened there was dangerous - she was going at racing speed on what shouldn't have been a live track - and there absolutely should be a penalty assessed on both her and Prema. But it shouldn't be a sporting penalty, more reprimand/fine.
This is a bizarre penalty. Previous precedent was a grid drop for the next race, and given there was significant mitigation in this case due to the poor placement of the flag and the broken radio the penalty should have been less, so 5 places would have been about right.
Abbi Pulling has been promoted to Race 2 winner after Doriane Pin was given a twenty second time penalty for taking the chequered flag twice.

The video is cute, but I just want to point it out as an example of Doriane introducing herself as "Doraine Piin" whereas every English commentator I've ever encountered calls her "Doriane Paahn".
"But I don't know who any of these drivers are, that's no fun!"
Yeah, fair point. But I do, so here's a thread of some people to root for (this thread is just "I ramble about things I thought about while reading the entry list"):
You remember watching your first season of F1 and it was crazy? You had no idea what was going on, and you had so many questions about the sport and everything was new and exciting?
Well if you're not already doing it, you can get that feeling again. The Rolex 24 is this
If F1 Academy is actually going to achieve its stated purpose - of helping young female racers bridge the gap between karts and single-seaters - then F1 teams absolutely need to stop putting girls and women with several years of single-seat experience already in it.
You know how some people start drama on social media because they're bored? Do you think Zak Brown knows he could probably do that without needing to sign a driver?
Some thoughts on PREMA Indycar drivers:
- Frederik Vesti's not up to much rn (ELMS)
- Romain Grosjean races for Iron Lynx (same corporate)
- Callum Ilott's got IndyCar experience and will be available
- Marcus Armstrong raced for Prema in F3 but not sure why he'd leave Ganassi
Well, that was inevitable. Dori's pole lap is actually faster than the Porsche Carrera Cup lap record (though probably not the qualifying record) which F4 is not normally that close to. Good to see Abbi Pulling back on form after last year's...whatever it was...though.
Doriane trying to look intimidating for about three seconds before cracking up is...well it's almost as much of a Doriane thing as being incredible on a drying track is.

Doriane's first senior-level wins were in Ferrari Challenge in 2022, where she dominated the Pro (Trofeo Pirelli) with 9 wins out of 14 races. You can watch those on this Youtube playlist:
To be fair, you don't have to look at comparisons with sportscars to show Doriane is underperforming in F1A. Abbi Pulling is 6th in British F4; leading the championship fairly convincingly is Deagen Fairclough, a driver Dori was on pace with but more consistent than in F4 UAE.
I don't think it's really driver error when your Bronze driver spins on slicks on a wet track. I think it's the error of the person that put him in that situation.
WOOHOOO!
(I'm assuming this is a Prema entry in disguise to get around the limits on the size of a team. Hopefully so because uncompetitive FRECA entries are a bit of a graveyard of ambitions).
📣 ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

will join the 2024

@martaracing
as the Iron Dames announce their berth into the championship. The new-look livery will mark the first dedicated Iron Dame entry into a single-seater championship, taking on take
Her first big victory, though, was the 2022 24 Hours of Spa, when she joined with the rest of the Iron Dames to take victory in the Gold Cup class (that's a restriction on what drivers are allowed, let's not get into it). 24h of Spa highlights are here:
Formula E is sometimes accused of being a retirement home for drivers, but I took a look at the age distributions and I think people are slagging off the wrong series:
i cannot pay £30 a month just to watch formula e next year, i will try my best to find someway to and to keep up with what is happening but im very disappointed to hear i can no longer watch my favourite sport
Now, the real question: did they mean to do this, or did Ian James just write down "TBA" next to the McLaren rookie driver slot and it got misinterpreted?
❗️McLaren will run Formula 3 race winner Taylor Barnard during

He'll join the likes of Robert Shwartzman, Jack Aitken, Zane Maloney, Jordan King and Gabriela Jilkova in helping to fulfil the teams' mandatory rookie running.
So as well as having a philosophical objection to how they did this ("we used a generative AI to...add an extra step to our creative process for no reason!") I also hate the actual livery. Basically nothing about Le Mans is going to make me happy is it?

I'm very confused by the Binotto news. As far as I can tell Audi have:
- Fired Seidl (CEO) and Hoffman (Chairman)
- Appointed Binotto as CTO and COO
Those are not interchangable letters! What is actually going on at Hinwil?
The first big "moment" came at the end of 2022, when she got in the Iron Dames Ferrari on a damp track and put a lap on the rest of the GTE field in the 4 Hours of Portimao and handed off to Michelle Gatting to bring it home for the win. Here's that race:
so:
a) I'm not getting to see Doriane at Zandvoort and
b) it turns out we've already seen Doriane's last sportscar race for the forseeable future and she didn't actually drive in it.
yay.
Summary: that was sure an F4 race. Couple of drivers run away with it, some incidents due to inexperience, a driver who nobody can get past because overtaking in F4 is very hard...that's F4 for you. Which is definitely a good thing - F1A looking like normal F4 is great.
Dutch mysteries: Robin Frijns and Nyck de Vries had the same pack of stroopwafels. Nobody else did. Who is going around giving Dutch drivers national snacks?
Well that was terrible. Some of Doriane's problem is doubtless Prema being overstretched and underperforming this year - given a variety of other heavily-fancied Prema drivers who are also struggling - but I'm increasingly convinced she's not that great in single seaters.
...really I feel like the rules ought to have some wiggle room in for "when the ICE isn't actually working" because from a safety perspective it's much better for the car to use the hybrid "too slowly" and keep going. Or maybe I just think DSQ'ing the

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Boooooo. Why do you even have a reserve driver if you're not going to use him when your primary drivers aren't available. Particularly when your reserve driver is, you know, Malthe Jakobsen.
For new WEC fans who are wondering how track limits works, it's similar to F1 (though it predates it), but applies to the driver not the car:
3 violations "free", 4th warning, 5th drive through.
Resets at driver change
If the first driver gets back in their count carries over.
This chassis name is actually to some extent news, since it is Ferrari using the same naming scheme for their chassis for two years in a row for the first time since 2018. No, seriously. Last time before that was 2008.
While people like me do complain about losing a class and argue that multiclass racing is the soul of endurance (and I genuinely do think it makes things way more interesting) it is worth remembering that back in the Group C golden age the entire field was prototypes.
So essentially Doriane has withdrawn from WEC after this weekend and is now only going to race at Le Mans. I don't imagine she'll be back in sportscars much for a while sadly.
Silverstone is almost impossible to get to by anything other than a car, if you were wondering how seriously FE's current management takes its environmental mission versus cost saving

#FormulaE
's London ExCeL race is increasingly likely to drop off the calendar beyond this year due to logistics.
... and get this - Silverstone is now favourite to take over the slot:
➡️
Alpine's top-down shot makes it look like they only had one set of paint for both cars (ie the only places the F1 car got any paint are where the Hypercar is black).
Maya Weug in FRECA: 6 points finishes, 17th overall, average position 15.2
Everyone else in a KIC: 0 points finishes, average position 23.8
Presumably, if you or I saw this you'd be thinking "OK, try her in a competitive car at that level then." Ferrari have other ideas.
This one might cause me to throw my London tickets back in the pool and stop caring about Formula E. Disqualifying a driver for a part that was part of the original stock chassis supplied to them and that they were not informed was no longer legal is ludicrous.
This year's been busy, with a 6th for the Iron Dames at the Daytona (IMSA) and an 8th in Qatar (WEC) along with running in the front pack in F4 UAE, including this win (where she finished second but the winner got a post-race penalty for a jump start).
This was Doriane's "moment". Going out on slicks on a damp track with more experienced drivers slithering off all over, she put almost a lap on the entire field across a stint and converted a slight advantage into a race-winning lead. It made it clear she was going to be a star.
On this day last year, a historical milestone was achieved by the

Apparently I have nothing better to do with my life so I did the equivalent table for Formula E.... which I guess you could say has some similarities and some differences.
Oh of course! They tried to give the privateer Ferrari the worse strategy so that the works cars beat it but because they're Ferrari obviously it went the other way.
