Yes…some don’t get it. These “teammates” are after your job. There’s friction. If your best friend was after your wife, co-worker after your job, then people could understand. I get this totally…and a POSITION on a famous program is on the line!.

Lazy Coaches? .I’m sure there are a few, but, parents, your kids’ HS wrestling coach is likely coaching 1-2 other sports, working a summer job so his wife can be home with the kids, etc. Do a fundraiser and throw the guy $5K and he’ll quit a sport and do off-season for you 🤙.

I got to travel & train with John his final 3 years of competing, then he was my OSU Coach for 2 years. He’d get you leaning & teaching then pull you over. Notice the Ok State HC we don’t usually penetrate, we pull you over the top. I’ve seen LeeRoy do this on video but John.

During a match, focus on the first takedown only. In a tournament, we are advisrd to focus only on the first match, which is great advice. Well, each match has 3 periods, so it makes sense to focus only on the first period of that match. This leads to a more focused wrestler.

Tournaments are very important. However, not every tournament is very important. Pick a big event, make a training schedule / plan leading up to that event, build in some weekends off, easy tournament weekends, weekend training camps, and take an organized approach vs tossing.
