Housing near public transport is a great idea, but it can only work with good quality PT services. Thanks to the Vic Greens for highlighting our recent report - which finds many local bus routes around planned activity centres need timetable upgrades.๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿš #MoreServicesNow

Frequency is freedom. For people to have a genuine alternative to driving, they need public transport that will take them where they want to go, at every time of day and on every day of the week. Itโ€™s time Labor got serious about bus reform and providing trains at off-peak times

More passengers using V/Line is great to see. But crowding has become a problem on many services, and the State Government must continue to deliver more train services and capacity to ensure the network keeps up with growth. Watch the video from WIN News:

๐ŸŽ‚Happy 166th birthday to Sunbury station, opened 10th February 1859! Later this year the line will connect to the Metro tunnel. More frequent services all day every day, on this line and on connecting lines are critical to make Melbourne's rail network so much more useable.

Bulleen to Fairfield 8:30am Sunday: Most direct is 45 mins, including 28 mins waiting for a train connection Or 41 mins via a long indirect route. This is just one example of many. Infrequent services make getting around Melbourne difficult on weekends. #TimeWastingTimetables

We're pleased to have joined with other advocacy groups around Australia to work together in calling for more Federal investment in public transport, and better interstate co-ordination, including in cross-border areas such as Wodonga/Albury.

๐Ÿš‰๐Ÿ•”๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ•• Iconic but outdated - the beloved clocks at Flinders Street Station should not just be a heritage item, they should provide accurate information for passengers. So why not update them to show the current line names?

'When it comes to transport, the saying goes โ€œwe get what we buildโ€ โ€“ so if we build more roads, we get more people driving. If we build paths, we get more people walking and cycling short journeys and our roads are less congested.'

2006: XBox 360๐Ÿ•น๏ธ and Happy Feet๐Ÿง released, Adam Goodes won the Brownlow๐Ÿˆ, and on 3rd Feb, the first VLocity trains ran on the Geelong line.๐ŸŽ‰ 19+ years later they're still making VLocities. They've served us well, but it's time to look for a more modern design of train๐Ÿš„โšก๏ธ

Travelling on a Sunday morning? In Melbourne you'll wait up to 3 times as long for a train as in Sydney or Perth. #MoreServicesNow #TimeWastingTimetables

Options to pay your fare with a bank card will make it much easier to hop onto public transport, especially for new and occasional users. Hopefully the trial in Wangaratta helps the Myki system move towards this, but it seems like progress is slow.

It's International Clean Energy Day๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒฌ๏ธโšก๏ธ Metro trains, trams and buses are moving towards zero emissions. Would be great to see similar progress for V/Line. And all public transport helps cut emissions, air pollution and traffic compared to driving.

Waits of 40 minutes between trains on Sunday mornings on about half the #Melbourne Metro network means it's hard to make connections, and even difficult to arrive to an event on time - not too early, not too late. #MoreServicesNow #TimeWastingTimetables [video repost]

Some cities have made great progress on air quality and cutting traffic, by returning space from cars to people.โค๏ธ Melbourne's motorway projects (two underway now) promise a traffic-free utopia but instead generate even more traffic.๐Ÿ–ค ๐Ÿ“ทvia Brent Toderian / Citylink ad, 1995
