The Alfred F. Kugel Collection Part Three Starts Tomorrow! The first two Kugel sales offered over 1,300 lots, including many of his completed exhibits. This third sale presents 444 lots, providing an equally expansive survey of Al’s many areas of interest. Particularly intriguing in this sale are areas where Al’s collecting focus remained “in-process,” where he had not yet acquired sufficient material to build a full exhibit. In many cases, the rarity of the material and the difficulty in locating additional pieces prevented him from completing the narrative he envisioned. During this talk we will discover the many reasons behind why some stamps never saw a post office; whether it be due to an error of design, change of postal rates or death of a monarch.
