@the_mel_jar TBF, I’ve been saying “we are in dark times” a lot lately, and I don’t really give a shit if anyone else thinks we are living in Eden, or Elon’s Brave New World That’s fine! I’m envious of their peace of mind. But it is dark over here in my mind 😂

I am a lefty, and yet, have found myself in front of the shocked faces of friends when I utter *anything* “out of step.” Moving to the slightly more conservative suburbs has been refreshing for this reason. I’d rather be seen as the “weird lib” than chastised for not being Pure
As a center-left person, meaning that I fall generally in the center on most issues, and on the left on a handful of others, and on the right on perhaps a few things, I really think that one thing people on the left absolutely need to stop doing is assuming that everyone aligns with them politically.

It’s not that suppression is always bad; it’s just that it’s not always good, either. Better a buffet of defenses, not overly relying on one. Encouraging across the board suppression is seeing Chris Traeger from Parks and Rec as the epitome of mental health 🙄
Surprisingly, ignoring worries can improve mental health. Evidence: After practice blocking out fears, people were less anxious—and less depressed 3 months later—especially if they had high anxiety or PTSD. Not all concerns demand attention. Some thoughts are worth dismissing.

@WhichWayIsLaLa Yes, I think that’s how it was originally intended! To describe that type of gal. Now I hear women say “I didn’t want to be a Karen…” and then go on to describe a situation that they had every right to speak up about. Bummer
