DUP MP for Upper Bann, Carla Lockhart, who is Chair of the All-Party Pro-Life Group at Westminster, has expressed deep concern at the latest abortion statistics for Northern Ireland, which show a 28.8% increase in abortions carried out in the past year. In 2023/24, 2,792 abortions were performed – 624 more than the previous year’s total of 2,168. Responding to the figures, Ms Lockhart said: “These are not just statistics. Each number represents a precious life lost, a child who will never have the chance to take their first breath, and a mother left to bear the lifelong impact of this decision. For so many across Northern Ireland, it is a cause of profound grief and heartbreak to learn of the scale of abortion. It is my firm belief that we in Northern Ireland remain a majority pro-life people, as evidenced by the most recent Northern Ireland Office consultation, where the clear voice of the people rejected the imposition of Westminster’s extreme abortion laws. “We continue to work with like-minded people in exploring what more the Department of Health can do to repeal this legislation which was forced upon us from Westminster and introduce life affirming laws and strategies. “The battle to win hearts and minds for the sanctity of life must and will continue. We must ensure that women facing crisis pregnancies are met with real support and life-affirming choices, rather than a system that too often leads them down the path of abortion.” #news #EndAbortion #ChooseLife

It was terrific to see new pro-life Senators elected who are prepared to speak up for life and work to reduce our country’s spiralling abortion numbers. The latest Seanad successes follow the increase in the number of pro-life TDs elected to the Dáil in November and the rise in the number of pro-life councillors elected in last June’s local elections. It bodes well for the changes we want to see happen, having a much stronger team of pro- life advocates in the new Oireachtas than the previous one. The Government cannot defend the 250% increase in abortions that has taken place since the law changed. The focus needs to shift from openly promoting abortion to working together to dramatically reduce the number of abortions taking place. There is a realistic possibility now of that happening. In addition to the pro-life wins that occurred in this week’s Seanad election, the main political parties couldn’t have missed the prominence and role the pro-life issue played in the election over all, including the marked increase in support that was evident for independent candidates and party candidates who are pro-life and who came extremely close to getting elected. #prolifeireland #news #politics #elections2025

Tragedies like this one will keep happening as long as the right-to-life of defenceless unborn babies is disrespected and derided by our culture. We encounter cases all the time where parents are being advised in a totally cavalier manner to opt for abortion, including situations where those offering the advice don't have all the facts regarding the baby's condition to hand. When a society adopts a position that certain lives are of less value than others, it follows logically that respect for all human life becomes undermined and diminished. #chooselife #loveboth #prolife

A Marist poll published in recent days in the US, shows that 73% of Americans are opposed to overseas funding of abortion. The poll also reveals that close to six out of ten Americans (57%) also oppose taxpayer-funded abortion in the US itself. The debate on taxpayer funding of abortion has been prompted by the decision of the new US Administration to limit funding or advocating abortion within the US or overseas. The move will result in two of the world’s largest abortion businesses – International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and Marie Stopes International (MSI) – losing a combined total of over $75 million in taxpayer funding that was earmarked for them to push their pro-abortion agenda in the immediate future. With regard to the ongoing US funding of healthcare projects in developing countries, the order issued will have no impact. It is explicit in simply directing US NGOs in receipt of federal tax dollars not to carry out or advocate for abortion in foreign nations. The accompanying memo issued along side the executive order also directs the Secretary of State “to take all necessary actions, to the extent permitted by law, to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars do not fund organizations or programs that support or participate in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.” These important details and qualifications have been absent from most of the media coverage in recent days with regard to what the order entails. #ProLife #news #politics

Another terrific result!! 🎉 Congratulations to Senator Sharon Keogan who topped the poll earlier today on the Industrial and Commercial panel in the #seanad2025 elections. It follows other great pro-life results in recent days with more pro-life Senators being elected. @SenatorKeogan is a fearless defender of the right-to-life and an extremely effective public representative. It's great to see her returned to Seanad Éireann for another term. #se25 #Seanad25

Great news! Congratulations to @sarahreilly30 of @AontuIE who has just been elected to Seanad Éireann. Sarah is a strong and committed advocate for the most vulnerable in society, including unborn babies. It is wonderful to see the increase in the number of pro-life candidates elected in all of the recent elections. We look forward to seeing more pro-life candidates elected to the Seanad in the coming days as the counts for the remaining panels get underway. #seanad2025

Watch @k_zappone's grossly misleading reply to a question about Ireland's latest abortion figures. The former Cabinet Minister and current Seanad candidate was replying to an audience member at a Trinity College Dublin hustings, who asked what she proposed doing to help reduce Ireland's soaring #abortion rate, given that she was a member of the Government in 2018 that promised abortion would be "safe, legal and rare" if people voted for Repeal. Rather than answer the question, Zappone provided this shameful answer. The indisputable facts are that the number of Irish abortions increased from 2,879 in 2018 to 10,033 in 2023 for that single year alone. The official figures for 2024 won’t be released until later in the year. It is sad that campaigners like Zappone are allowed to get away with making such manifestly inaccurate claims. She is one of sixteen candidates nominated to run for Seanad Éireann in the three-seater University of Dublin (Trinity College) constituency. #prolife #abortiondebate #news #Ireland

In his first public appearance since his inauguration earlier this week, US Vice President @JDVance will address the annual @March_for_Life in Washington DC, which takes place later today. His attendance sends a very strong signal that the incoming US administration is going to work closely with the #prolife movement to help rebuild a culture of life in the United States. Yesterday, President @realDonaldTrump issued pardons to 23 peaceful pro-life protesters who were jailed by the Biden administration. When issuing the pardons, the President said: "They should not have been prosecuted. This is a great honour to sign this." According to @LifeNewsHQ, the @ThomasMoreSoc, a public interest law firm based in the US, had formally petitioned the new President to pardon the pro-life activists. In a statement issued before the pardons were granted, they said: “These peaceful pro-life Americans mistreated by Biden include grandparents, pastors, a Holocaust survivor, and a Catholic priest — all are selfless, sincere patriots. We respectfully urge that all of them detailed here are richly deserving of full and unconditional pardons.” One of the very first actions taken by the new Trump-Vance administration on Monday was to close a federal government website opened by President Biden to promote abortion at taxpayers’ expense. The website had gone offline within hours of Trump being installed as the 47th president. Other pro-life decisions from the new administration expected soon include the reinstatement of the ‘Mexico City Policy’, the name given to the policy that has in the past blocked U.S. federal funding of overseas abortions, particularly in developing countries. #news #politics

Last week, a pro-life counselling centre in the US was notified by federal law enforcement to take extra precautions as they are once again the target of a possible arson attack from extreme pro-abortion groups. The pro-life centre, Compass Care, based in Buffalo New York, was previously firebombed in 2022 after the leaking of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v Jackson, the case that overturned the 1973 Roe v Wade ruling that legalised abortion.
