@derekmasseybc @nickchapsas It is clear that the FOSS dream of being paid, while using charity libraries doesn't scale when there are bills to pay all the way up to the top. We are back to Shareware and Public Domain.

@tekbog The software engineers at AAA game studios doing games for Switch, PlayStation and XBox don't care., Nor do the folks getting rich with iOS and iPad apps.

@zoriya_dev Thing is, Assembly programmers thought the same about FORTRAN and COBOL during the late 1950's, eventually compilers got good enough, and nowadays writing Assembly by hand is very niche.

@JezCorden After Windows Phone and Surface, alongside UWP and WinRT, I am not confident on their execution. On the other hand, I imagine Microsoft employees being quite salty seeing a Linux distribution with a Win32/DirectX compatibility layer taking over Windows market.

@WeezSays @thicc_stick_boi In Europe everyone was doing ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, PC. Until Playstation came to be, the only console we cared about were arcade machines and SEGA. This is why it feels ridiculous to my generation the way PC gaming is being talked about.

@WindowsDocs So C++/WinRT, which is in maintenance, gets the APIs first?

@H2CO3_iOS @relizarov A side effect that improvements have to go through WG21, and being a language with multiple implementations. Rust for the time being has the luck of not having a standards body, and a single reference compiler.

@debasishg Many domains still don't have Rust ecosystem support on par with C++. So it depends if one likes yak shaving build the missing infrastructure, or get right away coding the actual solution.

@davidfowl Depends on the project and customer. An healthy mix of Azure Pipelines, Github/lab Pipelines, Jenkins, mixed with Groovy, PowerShell, Python, MSBuild, Maven. Nodejs/Go/Rust projects also enjoy either Vercel or Netlify on top.

@WindowsDocs The sore state of C++/WinRT tooling in Visual Studio, the fact it is technically in maintenance mode, stuck in C+++17, and only occasional bug fixes. Hardly a tool for modern Windows development.

@WalterBright Without it you get "non-constant condition for static assertion" on GCC, C++23.

@vzarytovskii You're missing the attributes that should have been keywords in first place like InlineArrayAttribute. I enjoy C# becoming a modern Modula-3, but still maybe it could be more generalized instead of lots of special keyword and attribute sequences.
