Our collaborators at @WorldForestID led this important work on combating illegal logging, now published in Ecological Applications. Given chemical compositions of oak samples, the model pinpoints harvest locations to within ~ 323 miles of the true harvest GPS points. This approach can be used to verify origin claims from suppliers and support enforcement actions. Led by Jakub Truszkowski, with @VictorDeklerck, @simeone_john, @Marigold_Norman, @dataquidnunc, @RaquibYousuf, myself, and others. More details: 🔗

Indeed @vasundhar - It must be something of a cosmic joke that attention is touted as one of AI's biggest breakthroughs. Guess we're compensating for human attention spans by making machines infinitely better at it. 😅
long long ago, Prof @profnaren not really sure if it was in IBAB or IISc you spoke about shrinking attention spans while watching this, I remembered that again, what ever that number was back then, It is probably 1/100 th of it now.

🎉✨ Huge congratulations to my PhD students @RaquibYousuf, @ShengzheXu, and co-authors for bringing home the Best Paper Award 🏆 today at IEEE BigData '24! Thanks to PC chairs Wei Ding and Liping Di. Their paper, "LLM Augmentations to Support Analytical Reasoning over Multiple Documents," explores how (and if) LLMs can tackle tasks that involve making speculative connections across a corpus to support intelligence analysts. We know LLMs are good at hallucination but their results might surprise you! Sorry I couldn't make it guys — we'll celebrate soon! 🎊🥂
