"Expressing hate and support for terrorist organizations are not just bad ideas. They may make members of our community fear for their safety or feel unwelcome or unable to participate in serious debate. And when our students, faculty, and staff feel that way, they are less effective at performing the kind of research, teaching, and academic engagement that makes us a world-class educational institution to begin with."
Kudos @profmitts : "[Recent] episodes show the need for @Columbia to establish clear boundaries around disruptive speech...keeping that singular focus on our educational mission means making choices about the kind of speech we tolerate in our community."

A terrific analysis (as usual) by @Nadav_Eyal
What the region and Israel are facing in Gaza is a problem from hell. Hamas cannot rule Gaza, but no one knows who can. I suspect that those celebrating "an end to the war" are not interested in the details necessary to ensure real stability. A conversation with @thedispatch

A thought-provoking, well-written essay on higher education governance by @LishiBaker, a Jewish student leader @Columbia.
A disempowered administration leaves Jews on campus vulnerable to being tyrannized by some of Columbia’s most radical faculty members. My latest in @SapirJournal “ Columbia Needs Countercultural Leadership” — I’d love to hear what people think!!

Powerful essay by Elisha Baker regarding antisemitism and the Columbia University Senate.
“Silenced by the University Senate” — in my latest article, I discuss professors who abuse their positions of power to silence and vilify Jewish students and the Task Force on Antisemitism, which exists to defend our dignity. They should be ashamed.

Hypo analysis when fed the relevant class material is very strong. @Dschwarcz can that scale? By feeding it the class material am I implicitly giving it “the answer” (albeit not the reasoning) vs a large issue spotter which is what some lawyers do when a client walks in with a story?

My comments today in the The Times of Israel on the Manhattan DA dropping charges against the Hamilton Hall occupation force at Columbia University (: Law professor Joshua Mitts, who also serves as an adviser to the campus group Law Students Against Antisemitism, said the DA’s basis for dropping the charges — that students wore masks and covered security campuses — reveals deep holes in Columbia’s overall security system. “The university should institute strong antimasking policies and make a very substantial investment in surveillance cameras. It should not be that easy for criminals to enter a university building by force and cover up cameras. It’s a problem that needs to be solved,” Mitts said. Mitts said he would also like to see a stronger law enforcement presence on campus and improved public safety training so there is better enforcement of existing policies. “It is my hope that the university pursue aggressive disciplinary measures. That must happen. Occupying a building is not a small thing. Amnesty, which some faculty are calling for, is deeply inappropriate,” Mitts said. @edenyadegar @CUJewsIsraelis @CampusJewHate @jessicaschwalb7 @JessicaCostescu
