And this!
@Rothmus Births were only recorded as "white" and "nonwhite" until 1969. This statistic is comparing legitimacy of all nonwhite births from 1960 to just Black births in 1985. Really, the rate of out-of-wedlock births to white women in 1985 was 6x what it was in 1960.

THANK YOU!
The claim that welfare "destroyed Black families" is a misleading and racially charged oversimplification. The issue of family structure and economic hardship is not exclusive to Black communities—poverty and single-parent households have increased across all racial groups due to economic shifts, declining wages, and structural inequalities. Key Statistics: As of 2023, 24% of white children and 64% of Black children live in single-parent households (Pew Research). Hispanic single-parent households rose to 42%, and among Native Americans, it's around 53%. The white single-mother birth rate rose from 5% in 1960 to 29% in 2019, showing that this is not a race-specific issue. White families receive the most welfare benefits in the U.S. (approximately 40% of all welfare recipients are white). Blaming welfare for family structure shifts ignores deeper economic, social, and policy failures that affect all communities. Rather than attacking welfare, the focus should be on improving economic opportunities, education, and fair wages to support stable households across all racial and ethnic groups.
