Ya know, Power Rangers does not need to "divorce" from Tokusatsu "to be successful." What it needs are executive producers who have a spine and creativity who are not ashamed of it
Also, by its nature it will always be toku, so who the fuck said th-oh. Well that explains it.
"That looks like a rubber suit lol"
That because it is. Congratulations on pointing out they didn't actually find a subterranean bug monster to cast for this children's show. Showing you have no suspension of disbelief makes you look very intelligent, indeed, very big brain.
How to make an American tokusatsu inspired suit/design:
1. Take Dragon Ranger from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger
2. Trace the silhouette and outline
3. Fill and add tacticool lines
4. Congratulations!
I WISH most Western media had this same sense of kinetic energy, fun and spectacle in their fight chorography. But something something baby show something something sucks.
Recently on tokutwt it's been real easy noticing people who actually like Tokusatsu as a genre and art form from others who are watching because they think it's edgy Power Rangers.
Alternatively, what Power Rangers needs to do is just be a good show on its own merits which has been so far beyond the capabilities of the current administration it's actually funny.
What a schmuck.
Kamen Rider is aimed at an older audience than Super Sentai.
Despite the two shows airing back to back, sharing staff, being double billed, and having crossovers.
Shrink Bandai America's presence in the market, remove a boy's brand competitor for their own IPs and licenses they hold, generate passive income off MMPR nostalgia with t-shirts and knickknacks.
It really feels like this isn't a theory anymore at this point.
I dunno, gang. The more I'm thinking about it the more it's starting to smell xenophobic.
Maybe lean into those Tokusatsu roots with all the hyper popular live action Asian properties floating around now.
Could y'all imagine the world where Dini and Timm were like this dude and complained about the limits placed on them while working on their children's show instead of applying elbow grease and creative thinking to still do the things they wanted? We would have never gotten BTAS.
Another point, YOU were in the driver's seat. You had the opportunity and position to make it successful by whatever metrics you envisioned.
That statement and his attitude ironically remains me of this:
"Why y'all complaining about Zayto being demoted. It's the girl's turn, you just had a black red ranger."
How many white Red Rangers have there been back-to-back?
I was scrolling and saw someone say Super Sentai held Power Rangers back because they'd never have a female Red until they did original footage
Dawg, PR switches gender color all the time what even the fuck are yo-
I love how people use "Looks like something from Power Rangers" like derogatory insult as if stuff coming out of Toei doesn't have more imagination, charm, and character than 99% of the tacticool slop we're used to from Hollywood
Imagine if Fuuto P.I. does remarkably well stateside, but it doesn't make people interested in W, and instead W winds up being dismissed as the "weird" live-action oddity.
"It's racist if we make a black man a White Ranger. Instead let's give him his own separate but equal color. We'll get 3/5ths of our design team on with this right away." - Hasbro probably
Shout-out to whoever had that spreadsheet that broke down suit use in Gokaiger by episode so if PR chose to they could've edited around the non-PR Sentai suits.
And shout-out to Saban and crew for saying fuck it and completely ignoring it.
I feel personally attacked.
This shit ain't funny, I once walked back 20 hours of progress in Mass Effect because my imouto Talia was upset with me and I failed big homie for life Legion.
