You have the right to know who is directing your anesthesia care. Studies show that physician-directed anesthesia prevents almost 7 excess deaths per 1,000 cases involving complications. It’s OK to ask for an Anesthesiologist to be involved in your care.

@out2sea90210 The problems persist, but many are now more aware of the dangers that abound in modern healthcare. Awaiting a meaningful change can feel like slamming one’s head into a brick wall, but speaking truth to power & keeping patients informed are never wasted effort. Please stay loud.

@aconrad283 @AgnesSolberg @anesthesianews @WomenSurgeons @ASALifeline Because that title could never be confused with an Anesthesiologist? Why would any professional group actively lobby to use more a misleading title?

Many nurse practitioner programs are viewed as “diploma mills” because of their high (near 100%) acceptance rates, fully online non-clinical curriculum with open book tests, and lack of standardized clinical experiences for students.

Did you know? Your “doctor” might not actually be a physician (MD/DO). In healthcare settings, nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PA’s) are increasingly using the term “doctor” when they take care of patients. Know your rights. Ask for clarity.

Congratulations to the incredible physicians who have matched into pediatric and medicine specialty fellowships! Fact: specialist physicians have 6-7 years (23,000- 26,000 hours) of standardized training after becoming doctors in med school before they practice independently.
