One factor underpinning low fertility is snobbery. Having large families is coded as ‘poor.’ We see this in the two-child benefit cap debate. Reveals latent fears about the ‘wrong’ sort of ppl having large families. These same fears pervaded panic about teenage mums 20-30yrs ago.

The biggest mistake we made was to assume that ‘globalisation’ automatically meant ‘Westernisation.’ Al Qaeda was a product of globalisation, ISIS too. The modern 🇨🇳 state & its economy is also a product of globalisation which is why C-19 is a global crisis whereas SARS was not.
