One of the cool things about Twitter is that a Supreme Court Justice can cite a scholar and the scholar can respond in real time about how the Justice misunderstood his work. It’s actually incredible when you think about it.
2/ Alito's dissent cites my work 8 times, which is lovely and all, but the dissent is wrong, and a remotely attentive reading of that work would make it clear why.

Your father in law overturned a presidential election to install his party's candidate by blocking a recount on grounds so self-evidently pretextual that the opinion warned courts not to cite it in future cases. When people asked him about it later, he told them to get over it.
I for one want neither courts nor (so-called) experts ruling my life but that’s just me.

The reason it has to be Harris isn’t that she deserves it or is particularly talented. It’s that there’s an objective rationale for her specifically that no one else has. Without that, the floodgates open and every candidate has their special pleading for why it should be them.

Leftists deserve a lot of credit for making clear very early after the debate that they'd support Harris and wouldn't use Biden dropping out as an opportunity to push for one of their own. I think that defused a lot of fear about what the aftermath of Biden dropping out would be.
