Who likes Jethro Tull? Not a typical rock band with a flute playing lead singer. An eclectic mixture of prog, rock & folk. Martin Barre is a hugely underrated guitar player. These are a few of my favourites. Also like War Child,Stormwatch & Minstrel In The Gallery.
Any fans of Yes? Anderson’s distinctive voice, Steve Howe is one of my favourite guitarists and Chis Squire is one of the top bass players. And of course Rick Wakeman joined the fold on Fragile. Not everyone’s cup of tea I guess, but I’m a fan, especially these albums.
Rush - definitely a band people love or hate. I’m a big fan, especially of the era up to Exit Stage Left. Permanent Waves is my favourite. Do you like Rush and what’s your favourite Rush album. Or don’t you like them?
Any UFO fans? One of the unsung rock bands, who were hugely influential to the likes of Iron Maiden. Schenker’s guitar work is superb, aided by Paul Raymond, who also played keyboards. The awesome rhythm section of Way & Chapman & Phil Mogg on vocals. This is a great album.
Ashamed to say I didn’t know much about CCR other than their famous songs. But I noticed a lot of people here raving about them, so I’ve started listening to them. Wow! Ive certainly been missing out.
I love this album. Highway To Hell and Back In Black are more famous, but Powerage is chock full of classic songs. The killer Riff Raff, Sin City, Rock N’ Roll Damnation & the brilliant Down Payment Blues. Bon Scott at his best.
And Justice For All Metallica’s first album after the terrible death of Cliff Burton. Controversial due to the mix & inaudible bass. For me it’s not it’s up there with the previous 3 albums, but overall I quite like it. What are your thoughts on this album?
Who else loves No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith? Essential album for any rock fan. 45 minutes of bombastic, deafening rock and roll. I miss Motörhead. Great band.
Signals by Rush. A move away from the guitar fronted rock to keyboards. My heart lies with the albums from Rush to Moving Pictures, but I love some of the songs on Signals. They lost fans, but gained some. Thoughts on this album?
Nazareth. One of Scotland’s 🏴 greatest bands. Hard rocking rock n’ roll with the unmistakable vocals of Dan McCafferty, Manny Charlton on guitar, Pete Agnew on bass, Daryl Sweet on drums was the best known line up. Any fans of the Nazz? !
Molly Hatchet fans? In the late 70’s early 80’s they released some strong albums with great songs like Fall Of The Peacemaker, Whiskey Man, Bounty Hunter and many others. Sadly, all the original members are dead. Great southern rock band. Check these albums out.
Highway To Hell. Bon’s swan song. Mutt Lunge producing. He tightened up their sound and it bought classics such as the title track, Shot Down In Flames, Girl’s Got Rhythm, If You Want Blood etc. How does this stand inAC/DC’s album rankings? Do you prefer the rawer predecessors?
In 1979 Sabbath took the risky move of firing Ozzy and replacing him with a certain Mr Ronnie James Dio. In April 1980 they released this album. What more can I say other than 🤩
What a cracking live album. Released in 1978. Much of it recorded at the Glasgow Apollo. Bon in top form with the crowd in the palm of his hand. Mal & Angus pulling out the licks with Phil & Cliff in the engine room. Underrated rhythm section. Love the Bon era of AC//DC.
I personally prefer Def Leppard’s first 2 albums. However Pyromania & Hysteria went stratospheric. Def Leppard’s music and looks were perfect for MTV. They wanted to conquer the US from the outset & were more radio friendly than their NWOBHM counterparts. Fan or not a fan?
This is one of my favourite Maiden albums. Adrian Smith adds as a perfect foil to Dave’s bluesy guitar & Martin Birch as producer brings up that Maiden sound. Overlooked and Maiden should play more songs from it live.
From what I’ve seen on Twitter, Kiss are either loved or loathed. I love them. Seen them play in the UK several times and they were always entertaining and great to see. Never saw the classic line up sadly. Always entertaining. Kiss fan- yes or no?
1983’s Flick Of The Switch was a relative commercial disappointment. Produced by Malcolm & Angus who attempted to go back to a raw sound after the 3 Mutt produced albums. Received some bad reviews. I personally like it & think it’s one of the better Brian era albums. Thoughts?
I’m a fan of the prog era of Genesis, particularly the Gabriel era albums, although the first 2 Collins fronted releases were great.
Here are my favourites. I also like Trespass, Lamb Lies Down, Wind & Wuthering, Genesis Live and Seconds Out. Who else likes the prog era?
Blackfoot - this band needs more love. Definitive line up of Rickey Medlocke, Greg T Walker, Jackson Spires & Charlie Hargrett released some strong material in late 70’s/early 80’s. Deserved bigger success. Highway Song Live is an excellent album. I love a bit of Southern Rock.
Does anyone like Status Quo? From Piledriver up to Quo Live they were one of the best bands around, full of great rocking boogie blues. Sadly they never cracked the US. Brilliant in their heyday.
Who likes Motörhead? They should have been far bigger, but had poor management and bad promotion from their record labels. They were hugely influential and gave us some great albums and blistering shows. Here’s some of their albums I love. ♠️♠️♠️
So many brilliant live albums. Strangers In The Night, Live & Dangerous, Live After Death, Live Bootleg, Kiss Alive, Exit Stage Left, Unleashed etc. But if I had to choose one it would be Made In Japan. It’s full of fire and energy Is in anyone else’s top live albums?
Isn’t this a great album? Alice Cooper were among the best bands around at this period. What is often overlooked is Alice Cooper were a band up to Muscle of Love & then Alice went solo. Excellent musicians and songs writers. The band played as big a part as the front man.
Rainbow’s second album. 6 blistering tracks-Starstruck, Run With The Wolf, Tarot Woman etc. Richie, Ronnie, Cozy, Jimmy & Tony are in great form. 3 of them are no longer with us. What a legacy. Love the artwork as well.
It’s impossible to choose a favourite great debut album, there are so many to pick from. Montrose is one of the best. So many excellent songs. Space Station
#5
, Rock The Nation, Rock Candy, Bad Motor Scooter etc. Love this album, a real belter!
What an album Powerslave is. The bombastic Aces High. The eerie title track, 2 Minutes To Midnight, the underrated Back In The Village (Adrian’s guitar!) & of course the epic Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. Derek Riggs sleeve design is one of his best. Maiden at their peak. Love it!
Any fans of Paul Rodgers? He’s got such a great voice and has fronted the excellent Free and Bad Company as well as The Firm & keeping the Queen flame alive. It’s his work with Free & Bad Company I like best. These 4 especially. What’s your favourite of his work?
Triumph, the brilliant Canadian rockers. They were hugely popular in the North Americas in the 70’s/80’s, but have never got the recognition they should have. Rock & Roll Machine, Allied Forces, Just A Game, Never Surrender, Progressions Of Power etc. Great band!
No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith by Motörhead is of the best live albums ever released. Recorded at Newcastle and Leeds. No Sleep went to No 1 in the UK album charts. Lemmy, Eddie & Phi are no longer here, but what a legacy they left us. Thanks guys, you rocked!
Morning rock fans. And what a good way to kick off Monday with the brilliant Rising by Rainbow. 6 tracks of beauty. Had to wear the tee shirt to match. Hope you are all well.
Now spinning Rainbow- Down To Earth. Dio is by far and away my favourite Rainbow singer, but Graham has a good pair of lungs! Also Cozy, Roger Glover, Don Airey adding power to Richie’s guitar. A more commercial album than the Dio ones, it had 2 hit singles. Like or not like?
A lot of people don’t like Turbo. From what I’ve seen it seems to rank low in people’s Priest albums rankings. Well I actually like it. It’s not my favourite Priest album, but I don’t hate it. The 30th Anniversary is great, some good live stuff. Anyone else NOT a Turbo hater? 😉
1985’s Fly On The Wall. Simon Wright replaced Phil Rudd on drums. Produced by Mal and Angus. It’s probably my least favourite AC/DC album. I prefer Flick Of The Switch & the preceding albums. However it seems that a lot of people like it a lot. What’s your opinion on it?
Poison. The albums Look What The Cat Dragged In, Open Up And Say… Ahh and Flesh & Blood sold millions. Catchy glam rock with lots of lipstick and hair. I don’t hate them, but can’t say I love them. But they had a lot of fans. What do you think of Poison?
Any fans of Slade? Great rock & roll band in their heyday. Influenced the likes of Kiss, Twisted Sister, Mental Health and Def Leppard. Slayed is my favourite album of theirs.
Morning rockers. Travelling to Birmingham for work. Had to get up at 3.30 to get to London Euston to catch the train. 🥱🥱😢Coffee, croissant and I’m listening to UFO Strangers In The Night. Pure class. What an album!
In the 80’s. Motley Crue were on of the most successful and notorious of the Sunset Strip bands. I like the first 2 albums, but not overly keen on the releases after that. What do you think of Motley Crue?
It’s taken a LONG time, but I’ve finally come round to Born Again. I still prefer the first 7 Ozzy fronted ones and the Dio era, but I have to admit there’s some great songs on Born Again. It’s as heavy as hell and Gillan rocks. Hate the cover though!
Whitesnake. I prefer the earlier lineup with Marsden/ Moody pairing. After Saints & Sinners hair got bigger and the band got prettier. They still did some great albums, but the ones from Trouble to Saints are my favourites, these 4 especially. What’s your top ‘snake albums?
Blaze Bailey era of Iron Maiden. With Blaze as lead singer they released The X Factor and Virtual XI. There are some top songs on both albums, Sign Of The Cross, Lord Of The Flies, Man On The Edge, Futureal and the brilliant The Clansman. What do you think of the these albums?
David Bowie. One of the best musicians in popular music. Hugely eclectic and influential. Rock, psychedelic, pop, soul, electronic. etc. So many great songs. Here are some of my favourite of Bowie’s albums. What are your best albums/ songs of his?
Turbo certainly divides Priest fans with its move towards synths. Personally I like it. It’s not my favourite as I prefer the heavier stuff, but I think there are some good songs. What do other Priest fans think of this album?
Any fans of the Uli Jon Roth era of the Scorpions? I really like the albums with him. Taken By Force is my favourite. And the live Tokyo Tapes is also worth a listen. Very different to later more commercial albums. Roth was a big Hendrix fan.
How good is this album? The first album from the Mk2 line up of Deep Purple with storming performances from all band members. Stellar songs, Speed King, Child In Time, Flight Of The Rat etc. My go to Deep Purple album.
Morning boys and girls. Easter Bank Holiday. Back to the grind tomorrow. I’ve just found this gem in my playlist - Argus by Wishbone Ash. Throw Down The Sword is a classic. The dual guitar of Andy Powell and Ted Turner. An overlooked guitar pairing. Hope you are all well.
I’m a big fan of Saxon. For 45 years Biff and the boys have been producing great metal and some classic albums. A hard working band who always put on excellent live shows. Here are some of my favourite Saxon albums.
Any Saxon fans out there?
Michael Schenker. I’m a huge fan. The way he gets those sounds from his guitar. UFO, MSG, Scorpions. Not an easy person to work with by some accounts, but what a musician. Here are just a few of the albums he has graced.
Morning everyone. Listening to something slightly more mellow, but Fugazi by the brilliant Marillion still rocks. Any fans of this excellent band? Have a good morning, afternoon, evening etc Almost Friday!
Good to see Rory Gallagher getting lots of attention on Twitter yesterday. I love Gallagher, a brilliant guitar player and a lovely person. Hard to pick my favourite albums, here’s a few. What are your favourite albums from the G Man? 🎸🇮🇪
Morning rockers. First spin is Long Live Rock & Roll by Rainbow. Ronnie’s last album with them. Despite the tensions in the band, it’s a brilliant album.
Venom have been cited shaping the genre of thrash metal and their second album Black Metal has gone down in history as yet another sub genre. WTH is badly recorded, the drumming is only passable. But it’s certainly a landmark. What are your thoughts on Venom?
Number Of The Beast, one of metal’s most important albums. I always remember seeing and hearing it for the first time. Children Of The Dammed, Number Of The Beast, Hallowed, The Prisoner, 22 Acacia Avenue. Oh and I love the maligned Gangland. Unfairly criticised.
Kansas, yet another great band I’ve got to know better through Twitter X. I only knew a couple of their songs, but I’ve started listening to some of their albums. Really impressed. These are the 4 I’ve heard so far. Wow! Thanks everyone for pointing me to this band.
Morning rockers. It’s Friday and what’s a better way to kick off with Killers. One of my favourite Iron Maiden albums. Produced by the legendary Martin Birch. 🎸🎸🎸
Haven’t played this in a while. Forgotten how good it was. Aerosmith warts and all. Some bum notes and off key vocals, but Aerosmith really kicked ass back then. I’m a big fan of their 70’s output.
Budgie. Hard rocking Welsh 🏴 power trio who have influenced the likes of Metallica, Maiden, Soundgarden, Rush and Megadeth. Budgie could outrock Sabbath. Brilliant band. Listen to this!
I far prefer the Bon era of AC/DC, but give credit to Brian. Here’s some of my choices. BIB is a classic. FTATR is patchy, but some good songs. Switch is underrated. Razor’s Edge is front loaded, but still strong. I like Black Ice. What’s your favourite Brian era AC/DC albums?
Ronnie James Dio. Heaven Hell, Mob Rules, Rising, Long Live Rock N’Roll, Holy Diver, Last In Line.
6 classic albums on the trot with 3 different line ups.
And I could add more to this list.
Brilliant. Thank you Ronnie. You’re a legend.
Sandwiched between Sad Wings Of Destiny and Stained Class, Sin After Sin gets overlooked. Produced by Roger Glover. Simon Philips drumming is brilliant. Sinner, Dissident Aggressor are the highlights. Starbreaker, Let Us Prey, Diamonds and Rust etc. Opinions on this album?
Morning rockstars. First spin this morning is Force It by UFO. Michael Schenker’s second album with them. Shoot Shoot, Let It Roll, Mother Mary etc. UFO are one of Britain’s greatest rock bands . Have a good day everyone. 🎸🎸🎸
Good morning from the UK. In the cans this morning is Long Live Rock N’Roll by Rainbow. A stellar album from a brilliant band. It’s Friday and the new Priest album is out. What a great feeling! Keep rocking. 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Come Taste The Band with Tommy Bolin taking over from Ritchie. Coverdale sings lead on most of the tracks. Bolin was a great guitarist, but had a hard act to follow. Some good songs like Comin’ Home, Dealer & You Keep On Moving. Thoughts this MK 4 album?
Morning peeps. First listen this cold and sunny morning is Priest’s Point Of Entry. This album is unfairly derided. It’s got its weak songs, but there are some really good ones. Solar Angels, Desert Plains, Heading Out To The Highway etc. Have a great day everyone! 🎸🥁🎹🎶
Morning lads and lasses. And it’s Monday again😢. I’m listening to Sad Wings Of Destiny. This is when the signature Priest sound really started kicking in. Victims Of Change, The Ripper,Genocide, Tyrant etc. Great album by the Metal Gods. Hope you are all well 🎸🥁🎶
Who else likes Sad Wings Of Destiny? This album is when the trademark sound of Judas Priest started really coming through. Glenn and KK bouncing off each other, use of light and shade and obviously Rob’s vocals.
Any fans of the Scorpions? I like the Uli Roth era also the Jabs era, but I lost interest when Crazy World was released. The latest release is pretty good, but my heart lies from In Trance up to Savage Amusement. Here are some of my favourites.
Morning peeps. It’s 6am and cold, but sunny. In the cans is a result of when a certain guitarist ( Ritchie Blackmore) got together with a certain singer ( Ronnie James Dio) in a Munich recording studio. Great debut from a great band. Have a good Thursday rockers. 🎸🥁🎶
Morning all! Went to an “all you can eat” buffet last night and stuffed my face silly. Feel several pounds heavier. On a detox! Today’s first listen is Fireball. ☄️☄️Overlooked as it’s sandwiched between two classics. A great album in my opinion. Have a great Monday rockstars.
Master Of Reality is my favourite Black Sabbath album. After Forever, Lord Of This World, Into The Void and the brilliant Children Of The Grave. Sabbath firing on all 4 cylinders here. Class album.
Been listening to Twisted Sister. I think they were great. A heady mix of Slade, Kiss and Alice Cooper with their own unique identity thrown in. Stay Hungry is my favourite album. Dee Snider’s autobiography is also worth reading. Any fans of Twisted Sister out there?
Brave New World. Iron Maiden’s 2000 “comeback” album with Bruce and Adrian returning to the fold. It’s probably my favourite of the 6 piece line up, but I still prefer the first 7 albums. How about you? Do you love it, think it’s ok, or dislike it?
The Joe Lynn Turner fronted era of Rainbow released 3 studio albums all of which were more commercially successful than with Dio or Bonnett.
Although JLT has a good voice. I don’t think this era is a patch on Dio and I prefer the one Bonnet album over these 3. How about you?
Whilst Live and Dangerous is on of the GOAT live albums, Life is pretty good as well. Recorded on Lizzy’s farewell tour in 83. Eric Bell, Robbo and Gary Moore make guest appearances, but sadly not Snowy. However this album sizzles. Alas, the end of an era from this great band.
Thank you Twitter friends for stirring up my interest in Testament. This band are criminally underrated and don’t deserve to be the second tier of thrash. Should be much bigger.
Morning rockers. In the cans this morning is Stained Class. My favourite Judas Priest album . An essential part of a rock fan’s collection. Have a good day everyone.
Morning rockers. Finally Friday and the end of a tiring week. In the cans is Ozzy Osbourne’s The Ultimate Sin. I know Ozzy doesn’t like it, but I disagree. Jake E Lee guitar is smoking. Not Ozzy’s best, but some good songs here.
This is a cut above most rock star autobiographies. Fascinating history about Rush and the music. Very funny and informative. Harrowing accounts of his parents and ancestors interments in the Nazi death camps and Neil’s bereavements and tragic deaths. But somehow uplifting.
Morning peeps. Off work this week 😀. Nice leisurely start with a cuppa and MSG. Cozy Powell and Paul Raymond join Michael’s lineup. Have a good Tuesday 🎸🎸
Greetings rock fans. Early morning listening is Irish Tour’74 by the brilliant Rory Gallagher, Rory always played in Ireland during the height of the terrorist activities. He bought Protestants and Catholics together for a few hours, with his magical music. Lovely man. ❤️🎸
Much as I am enjoying the new Priest album, which is a good solid release with some top songs, this absolute beauty is my go to Priest album from the Metal Gods.
Always loved this album. Mostly recorded as a 3 piece band, Robbo only present on 3 tracks. Southbound, Bad Reputation, Opium Trail, Dancing In The Moonlight etc. Thin Lizzy were such a good band.
I’ve been thinking how many great German 🇩🇪 rock/metal bands there are. Scorpions are the most famous, but besides the ones below, there’s Sodom, Rammstein, Gamma Ray,Blind Guardian and many others too numerous to list! Who’s your favourite Teutonic rock band?🇩🇪🇩🇪
Morning rockstars. A beautiful morning, shame I’ve got to work. Kicking off with the album that started off one of the best metal bands - Iron Maiden. Full of raw energy and the classic Maiden sound. Great songs that have stood the test of time.
Status Quo. Absolutely brilliant boogie blues rock band in their prime. They produced a slew of great albums culminating with the Quo Live album released in 77. Hello is my favourite of theirs. What’s yours?
Little ol’ band from Texas- ZZ Top. First record released in 71. Great mixture of bluesy, low down, southern rock. Most famous for Eliminator, but they released many other worthy albums. Sadly bassist Dusty Hill died in 2021. Great band. What are your favourite ZZ Top albums?
Post your top 4 albums by your favourite band/artist- to the surprise of no one.
There’s a load of bands I could have chosen- Zeppelin, Purple, Dio ( and his associated bands), Rush, Rory Gallagher etc. But I’ve gone for Iron Maiden.
Chinatown-Snowy White replaces Gary Moore along with uncredited keyboard player Darren Wharton. By all accounts the sessions were difficult due to the excesses. Some top tracks including Chinatown, We Will Be Strong, Killer On The Lose, but IMO patchy. How do you rate this ?
Morning rockers. First listen this morning is Deep Purple In Rock. A belter of an album. Child In Time, Speed King, Flight Of The Rat, Blood Sucker, Into The Fire etc. The clever play on the album title and artwork just add to its brilliance.
Morning peeps. In the cans at 5.30am it’s Kiss’s first album. A lot of hate for this band. Kiss have released some duffers, but I’m a fan of their 70’s albums especially. This one has classics like Strutter, Firehouse, Cold Gin, Deuce, Black Diamond etc. Keep rocking 🎸 🎸🎸
Morning ladies and gents. In the cans this morning is No Heavy Petting by UFO. An overlooked album. Some strong songs - Natural Thing, I’m A Loser & the brilliant Martian Landscape co written by Argentinian keyboardist Danny Peyronal. Have a good Tuesday. 🎸
