Finally closed a bad tax loophole in Dublin City Council’s budget tonight.
For years, commercial landlords got a 50% rates tax cut if their property was vacant. A totally perverse incentive.
It took 3 years of gradual reductions, but the “vacancy refund” is finally gone. 🙌

To disprortionately benefit wealthy homeowners, the tax will mean €12m less for the council's funds.

Dublin City Council management proposed hiring around 100 new staff to do street cleaning in the city.
All it took was for councillors to stop voting to cut the Local Property Tax this year.
And in the last few minutes, a majority voted to cut it. No new cleaning staff, so.🤦♂️

That protest didn't show up, but proud to say we had a pre-emptive counter-protest with 20+ friendly Kilmainham and Inchicore locals there.

I've just lodged an objection to plans for an "amusement centre" in Dolphin's Barn, which would likely have slot machines.
I think these machines are very grim. They add nothing, prey on addiction and leech off customers.

Been up and down the Dún Laoghaire coast cycle path a few times over the past days.
Big standout difference is who is using it. Yes, the usual male cyclists like me, but loads of older people, kids, families and women. Really pronounced difference.
