“We’ve left our options open." Matt Kelley will be targeting a Country Cup with Stupendo on Saturday, but connections have options and must decide whether they want to try and win a Braidwood Cup or Tumut Cup. On a big day for the Canberra stable, Kelley is also confident he can win the Tumut Sprint with Starlight Girl. Story ⬇️

“I just knew if he were right today, he’d be too strong.” On Sunday, tough-as-guts galloper Direct Fire, ridden by Amy McLucas, showcased his determination when holding on for a memorable victory in the $80,000 Bega Cup at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club. The victory earned the Theresa Bateup-trained 4YO his shot at glory in the $3 million Big Dance, which will be run and won at Royal Randwick on the first Tuesday in November. Story ⬇️

“Pop trained a few winners at Quirindi, and Dad’s trained over 800 winners, so it would be a nice thrill to get the monkey off the back." The Lee family name is firmly established in racing, and young Ballina-based trainer Jordan Lee wants to continue that tradition. Tomorrow, he'll be chasing his first winner as a trainer when Eagle Hawk Star (Luke Rolls) takes on the 1206m Class 4 Country Championships preview. Story ⬇️

“I know he has had a long time out, but he hurt himself after the Wildcard, so we turned him out, rehabilitated him, and had him going again." Tony Ball has set talented galloper Bantarki for one last tilt at Country Championships glory. Racing on his home track at Taree on Friday, the 5YO will have Courtney Bellamy on board when resuming from a 314-day spell in the 1250m Class 4 Championships Preview. Story ⬇️

“I’ve had more comebacks than Mike Tyson... At the end of the day, I’m just back riding, and there is no extra pressure." On Friday, punters will notice a familiar name in the racebook, with Brodie Loy set to make a lowkey return at Bathurst when teaming up with the Bjorn Baker stable. Story ⬇️

@pferrari27 @emkguymer @reith_christian Agree. Former jockeys in leadership roles (similar to Racing Victoria's new program) would be great. We had Corey Brown until he quit.

@emkguymer @reith_christian 100% agree. They're athletes in a dangerous sport. Still, other jockeys have messaged us and disagree with the sentiment in the original post because it appears targeted. Just seems like the poor kid is now a punching bag.
