Wow, this blew up! Just a quick update - gave Ahmed my blessings and sent him a free license. If in ten years Egypt becomes our sales leading country, I will let you all know.
As many of you know, I'm recovering from cancer and things are going great. Was able to run/walk my first mile today. It took me 12:46.
While this result is embarrassing, this is just a start. I post it here to hold myself accountable.
I'm on Twitter since 2009 but only became active 3 months ago.
Why? I got cancer.
First of all, I'm fine. My body is responding well to the treatment. I will be as good as new in two months. Life is awesome
Here are lessons I learned on the way and want to share with you 👇🧵
I see a bunch of indie hackers doing a "12 projects a year" kind of challenge. While an interesting exercise on its own, it looks counter-intuitive.
I would rather find one project that works and double down on it.
What's your take on this?
@hakanderyal
Thank you for clarifying, and it makes more sense now. I also received another message from Ahmed that confirms this. Still not sure how to reply.
🎉Black Friday special for my Twitter fam!

I've been writing code for 36 years. I've been running a software company for 20 years.
Last week, I had imposter syndrome for real. It happens to all of us. Hang in there.
I posted the photo of my workstation many times and people always make of it, saying I'm an air traffic controller or moonlight as a night shift guard in Walmart.
The truth is that having more screen space greatly increases productivity. Find my specific use case below

Good morning, friends! What are you working on this week?
I'm taking it slow as I'm on the road. Mostly answering support questions and watching big waves in Nazare.
Sending a newsletter to your customers can be a pain. We grew our newsletter to 80K+ subscribers and here are 12 simple ideas that you can use RIGHT NOW to keep your customers engaged.

I haven't posted much about what my company has been doing recently. January was mostly uneventful, but sales this month are 20% higher than Jan 2022 sales.
2023 is off to a good start! Celebrating small wins is essential.
Instead of the "end of the year sale" we gave away $50K worth of software to our existing clients.
You may think this is money lost. I think this is a great long-term investment in customer success.
Remember the viral story about Ahmed from Egypt? He used a pirated version of our software but needed my blessing due to religious implications.
There is a happy end here. Ahmed came back last week and purchased $400 upgrade to the latest version. I'm very proud of him!
To get what you want, at some point you have to start doing things that you do not want to do.
Developers need to learn marketing, introverts need to talk to people if they want to get a date etc.
What do you think?
Getting your first paying customer is an unreal feeling. Then the second one, the third.
You talk to them, understand why they buy. It helps you get 10 more, then 100.
Sky is limit.
Productivity tip: five-minute rule. Beat procrastination.
If you are stuck trying to start something like writing a new article or watching a new tutorial, make yourself do it for five minutes, and then you are free to stop.
Chances are, you will just keep going. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
This year I've launched four side projects. One was an immediate success and three others are struggling to take off the ground.
Would you like to know more?
@hakanderyal
I sent him a free license. Unlikely to become a customer but it didn't cost me anything either. If we all can make the world just a little bit better, we should do it.
@alex_skazka
It was C++ for me back in the day. But it was the first real programming language I learned.
Later in the day I struggled with Prolog and Smalltalk
A real story.
A customer disappears for a year, stops paying his invoices, then comes back.
(me): What happened? We sent you a bunch of payment reminders.
(customer): Sorry about this. I was in jail.
Everyone's struggle is different. Be kind, always.
After reading "$100M offers" book.
A potential client asks to extend the trial which we are not able to do. Instead, I offer an unconditional 30-day money-back guarantee, which we normally don't offer.
They purchased. Wish me luck! Will let you know the results in 30 days.
If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it.
If you don't ask, the answer is always no.
If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.
In late 2001 I was fired from my job. Bad economy, dotcom crash etc.
It was painful. I have lost the only income my family had. I told myself "Nobody will fire me anymore".
It took me two more years to turn my side hustle into a business. Sometimes you just need a little push.
- You don't need to be famous to have a huge Twitter following
- You don't need to have a huge Twitter following to be successful in business
- You don't need to be successful in business to live a happy life
Be happy, my friends!
You are a brilliant marketer and you have a talented developer at your disposal. You have one year to create something remarkable. What would you build?
I have a few friends who run marathons. I could never run more than 3-4 miles, ever. These days I can barely run/walk one mile.
So, what? I did a little better than the last week and it is all that matters. Keep pushing!
One of our customers sent me this Turkish coffee as a New Year gift, just arrived yesterday. I'm speechless! Thank you, Ahmet! We have the best customers.
Working on new dashboard styles in PHPRunner/ASPRunne.NET version 10.8.
Points of interest:
- icons can be added to dashboard element headers
- "raised" look of dashboard elements
- two new styles of code snippets, check items in the bottom left corner
A potential client emailed us two weeks ago. Turned out he had three friends who also are clients. They run Skype support group helping each other with our software questions.
This group now has four PHPRunner customers. Feels like magic when your clients do your job for you!
