Here's the new category view in Start > All apps in build 22635.4010 - in this update, it works!
Only app icons are shown, some apps are also in smaller groups within categories (trying to open them doesn't work yet).
It looks like another Start menu > All apps view option is coming soon: Category view. Present in build 22635.3930, with some not yet functional categories.
Also, you'll be able to switch between the existing alphabetical and new grid/category views using a dropdown menu.
Fun fact: Windows 11 22H2+ includes 'education themes', intended for students using school devices. You can enable them with regedit:
1. Open it and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\current\device
2. Create a key in device, call it Education
(continued)
You will soon be able to quickly end an entire task/process by right clicking it on the taskbar and choosing a new 'End task' option, Task Manager style. New in build 25300 and hidden.

👀Here is the first actual look at the new File Explorer details pane in 25276
You can kinda get it to work by enabling the Insights ID and using Windows Sandbox.

These lock screen cards will be coming to Windows 11 as well, they are rolling out in 22631.3371 (KB5035942). Like in the Windows 10 update, there is no way to pick and choose which of the 4 cards you want, it's all or none.
Additional lock screen cards such as finance and sports are rolling out for Windows 10 in KB5035941 (19045.4235), the feature can be enabled by running:
vivetool /enable /id:48801541

vivetool /enable /id:47664723
The Windows Firewall dialog box has been redesigned in Dev! Doesn't seem to have been mentioned in the release notes for recent builds, but it has a new design to match Windows 11, respects light/dark mode and also dims the rest of the screen slightly like the UAC prompt
Here are the recently spotted modernized taskbar thumbnails hidden in build 26052, now more functional in this build. If you want to enable this (feature name ExtendedXamlUIRefresh):
vivetool /enable /id:29532725
22631.2050 () is pretty cool! New File Explorer UI bits, volume mixer, Dynamic Lighting and updated file sharing UI - all without needing you to wait for a gradual rollout. Thread incoming.
Screenshot of the new compression wizard in build 26040 mentioned in the blog post, accessed through a new Additional options entry in the "Compress to..." list.

Build 23451 reintroduces better File Explorer tab dragging, including the ability to drag tabs between windows and drag a tab out to open it in its own window!
Now with a less weird implementation and one that works with the WASDK File Explorer, still hidden though.
More screenshots courtesy of BetaWorld, build 21370.1003:
A screenshot of Get Started and an interesting dark theme background (placeholder?)
Wiki page for this build claims that two test themes, called Windows Light (test.theme) and Windows Dark (testdark.theme) are present
BetaWorld have *apparently* obtained some internal Windows 11 Cobalt builds from the fs_dev6_flt branch, including 21370, 21376, 21380 (already known) and 21385 🤔
Internal Cobalt is something I've been interested in for a while
Here's a glow animation in File Explorer's modern address bar for the start backup button, didn't notice it earlier (maybe it didn't work?)
It does not seem to happen when hovering over it, only for a few seconds after you open a folder that isn't backed up.
Decided that a screenshot of the glow animation in the address bar (addressed in Tweet
#2
of the thread) isn't enough, so here's a video!
The glow starts at 1 second after hovering, glows for a second (at peak 80% opacity of accent), fades for 1 second and repeat 3 times.
Another Windows 7 M3 build has been shared/leaked - 6776! It includes many of the changes seen in build 6780, such as the new boot screen and ocean background in setup/on the login screen.
Windows 7 (M3) build 6758 was shared/leaked recently! It includes a significantly updated Paint application (compared to previous builds) which is more similar to the one in the RTM.
Build 26002 has a new velocity feature: DisableWin10Taskbar, 42537950
When enabled, it, as the name suggests, prevents the Windows 10 taskbar from loading. (explorer crashes or just loads the Win11 taskbar when trying to load it with ExplorerPatcher)
The Widgets board is getting some improvements soon (at least in the European Economic Area/EEA): notably, it will soon use WinUI 3! (with used for the "Custom Feed".)
Internal build 26047 was accidentally pushed to public Windows Update servers recently. It was pulled soon after, but was shared today. Server only.
10.0.26047.1001 (rs_prerelease.240128-1636)
The Microsoft Photos app now has image background removal and replacement. (app version 2023.11110.8002.0, should be rolling out to all Insider channels)
New in 25272: Microsoft is experimenting with adding a 'Gallery' entry alongside Home and OneDrive in the File Explorer navigation pane. Shows the contents of the Pictures folder as of now
vivetool /enable /id:41040327
An internal Windows 11 Zinc build has leaked - 25267.1001 (rs_wdatp_edr.221212-1900). Sent out to partners on December 18 last year.
I couldn't resist applying a 'meme' I made last summer as the desktop background. I could not.
Another neat hidden change in 25247, a minor one - when you are connected using a VPN, there will soon be a small 'shield' overlay on the network icon to indicate that. (also, it respects your accent color!)

Undocumented improvement in Beta 22635.3785: you can now drag apps from the Start menu's pinned list to the taskbar to quickly pin them to it (previously, you had to do this from the all apps list).
It looks like another Start menu > All apps view option is coming soon: Category view. Present in build 22635.3930, with some not yet functional categories.
Also, you'll be able to switch between the existing alphabetical and new grid/category views using a dropdown menu.
A Start menu update that could be coming soon: an updated All apps page in the Start menu, which displays apps in a grid of icons instead of a vertical list.
Looks like a new profile picture editor experience is being added to Settings, letting you make changes like adding effects and filters to the image before applying it. (disabled by default, build 26231.)
vivetool /enable /id:45189370,47364920
Fun fact: In Windows 11 22H2 (and Dev/vNext), you can still launch the old Task Manager.
Open the Run box (Win+R) and run C:\Windows\SysWOW64\LaunchTM.exe
An improvement coming soon to File Explorer tabs: the option to duplicate a tab from the right click menu. (disabled by default, Beta 22635.3566.)
vivetool /enable /id:45262221
Phone Link is getting a Start menu companion!
To meet the requirements*, make sure Phone Link 1.24052.124.0 or newer is installed (latest is 1.24061.89.0) and Start menu companion support is enabled (vivetool /enable /id:48697323 - also requires 48433719).
New hidden File Explorer has been spotted early so here's this very original...thing...I made (back in late June IIRC)
Also, time to say this for the 200th time: I can't wait to test it out when it does become functional
As someone has spotted, Microsoft is trying out a search bar in the Task Manager (latest Dev build, 25231). It's a hidden feature, so ViVeTool has to be used:
vivetool /enable /id:39420424
You will soon be able to modify more sound options from the quick settings panel (hidden in 25281). Microsoft is working on updating this!
vivetool /enable /id:42106010
The Microsoft Store's Library page will be getting a search box to let you quickly find an app in the list. (Present in v22406.1401.1.0, don't know if it's rolling out.)
Dev 23575 (right - 23570 on the left) includes the fix for the thin line under the active tab in File Explorer at scaling values of 125% or greater. (Line is still there at 100%)
More continuous innovations coming soon to Windows 11 stable: tabbed Notepad and Snipping Tool screen recording! Now in Release Preview (yes, even for 21H2) suggesting it is very likely we will see these app updates in stable soon 👀
Build 25201 updates some of the older (Metro?) style dialogs (hidden). Here's the rename your PC one:
Left: new
Right: old

Fun fact: the Segoe UI Emoji font in builds 23466+ and 22621.1900 includes 3D/fluent emoji - although these are used basically nowhere in Dev, Canary builds 25324+ support showing them in more areas of Windows, such as the emoji picker. Quite limited.
Looks like the Cross Device Experience Host will let you make your device show up in File Explorer in a future update, a toggle for this has been hidden in the app for some time.
Here's how the Copilot entry in File Explorer context menus will appear. It will show some actions you can take for files using Copilot, like summarizing and describing text files.
Looks like Copilot is coming to File Explorer context menus in some way soon, the latest Canary and Dev builds include a new velocity feature called CopilotFEContextMenu, 45647150
Hidden within build 25300 is something Longhorn's shell designers wished to one day see in production — a XAML based photo gallery right inside File Explorer. Not as flashy as Phodeo, but I'd say it still counts. Has a timeline scrollbar & configurable photo source list.
Update: if you want a variant of the richer lock screen weather experience in Dev/Beta that looks more like what's shown in the blog posts, run this:

vivetool /enable /id:47526873
Dev build 25309 has new (hidden) Start menu recommendations to show tips, shortcuts, new apps and more. This can be toggled off from Start menu settings for those who don't want to see this kind of recommended content

Windows Terminal tab tear out, this is pretty cool. Doesn't work in admin Terminal windows.
Seems to be in Terminal Preview 1.18.1421.0. I hope I don't have to send this tweet a 4th time lol
