, we’d like to acknowledge Hugh Mason Browne (1851–1923), who invented a machine that trapped sewer water and stopped it from flowing back into a house. We use this sort of device in Pittsburgh, called a backflow preventer, to this day!

We surpassed the state requirement to remove 1,341 lead service lines by June 30. But we’re not slowing down! Our crews are continuing to offer full lead line replacements across the city.

Today, the City of Pittsburgh will begin repaving the walkway around the Highland I Reservoir. This is the final step to complete the restoration of the parapet wall around the reservoir. The walkway will fully reopen once paving is complete.

Here is a section of the 16" water main that split early this morning on Brighton Rd. This pipe was installed 97 years ago! We're working to replace our aging water mains before they cause the kind of destruction we saw today, but it takes time and resources from ratepayers.
