I always felt that jazz music is a great analogy for community: emergent, relational, but still needs a fluid sense of coherence and alignment (especially in contrast to more structured, pre-planned classical music).
What can jazz bands teach us about creating a team environment where everyone can contribute & flourish & the team can perform its very best work? A jazz band culture means: 1) Individual responsibility: everyone understands their role & is prepared to jump in to support others. 2) Mutual trust: everyone knows they have each other’s backs. 3) Adaptability: members create as they play & build on each other’s notes. 4) Experimental and learning mindsets: all team members value & respect this. 5) Deep listening and responsiveness: everyone is aware of who's playing what & what each person contributes to the whole. 6) Creativity and improvisation: based on core competencies. What if we organized our communities (and other collective projects) around a purpose question (vs a purpose statement)? What you think? #community #networks #collaboration

"We have replaced relationships with transactions"👇
As an adult in the western world you are being told to not rely on your community. Use professionals instead. We have replaced relations with transactions for our GDP god. That’s how we destroyed our communities. Instead, reach out to your friends, neighbors & rebuild community

"Don’t Try To Shape Opinions, Shape Networks"
We can spend hours creating business cases & "value propositions" but trying to persuade people to change opinion is often not worth it. When it comes to change, shaping people's networks is typically more effective than shaping opinions: By @digitaltonto
