Total emissions from UK grown onions are slightly lower, but there isn't much of a difference.

The "bridge from NI to Scotland" discourse is daft because you'd think everyone would agree 1) Yeah it'd be cool 2) The hundreds of billions (trillions?) that it would cost would be better spent elsewhere Maybe let the long suffering people of Leeds have their tram first.

@MLAsAndTheLike @timcairns If a fixed link could be done for less than Β£10 billion I'd be all for it. I do wish we could do something about the exorbitant cost of the ferries though.

@timcairns You're sneering at the idea of equalising ferry pricing between Larne to Cairnryan and Stornoway to Ullapool. Even if there was a bridge, if people are going much further south that Carlisle they'll fly anyway. Electric planes would largely deal with the carbon emissions.

@timcairns The 2021 feasibility study estimated Β£335 billion, so half a trillion isn't outlandish given the habit of major UK infrastructure projects to balloon in cost. Why can't we just make the ferries cheaper? That's something that could actually happen in reality.

@pacmreid This is taken from the US data. From the US data, the trade deficit went from $60bn in 2023 to $81bn in 2024 (January - November).

It'd be nice if we could have 1 (one) Wetherspoons in Belfast other than the one on Bedford St that permanently has the menacing aura of the Mos Eisley cantina

Making fun of this sort of nonsense is one of the few things that unites the political spectrum these days. The contrarian position would be to freak out about "the doomsday clock being 89 seconds before midnight".
