@HarryDCrane So a junior investigator award for $150K should have the same indirects as a program project with 20 investigators for $10MM?

@ChrisOldman4 @mfcannon The enrollment process differs whether you are getting social security prior to medicare age eligibility (then you are auto-enrolled and have to disenroll, still optional). Otherwise you have to sign up (may be other special cases). Here is the description on the HHS website:

@mfcannon @ChrisOldman4 I didn't pay him to say that, because MFC doesn't believe in subsidizing a society to make it a more generous place with shared purpose and collective investment (otherwise I would have already venmo'd him)

@mfcannon I take your point. It would have helped me if you had framed up the population you were discussing, because yes I assumed you were talking about people who actually participated in the program.

@ChrisOldman4 @mfcannon I appreciate both the note regarding what is actually true about the program that serves our nation's seniors, and the critique of my response. I will try to do better.

@mfcannon so are we all participants in all govt funded or supported endeavors? Does this mean I am part owner of your house after you have taken the mortgage interest deduction? And if so, where is my invite?

@mfcannon oh I thought you were talking about the people who are enrolled in the program. Between the two of us I'm pretty sure I'm next. I will try to pull up the ladder behind me if you want.

@sacjai One of a few phrases I assumed was said ironically the first time I heard it. Same with "all bleeding eventually stops".

@mfcannon There's more, they accept the price at rates well above 90% for nearly all specialties. We could save money if we ran a sign up auction to clear the market as I proposed way back in 2009:

@CMichaelGibson @statnews This is interesting. But at least the indirect evidence I have seen on this from observational studies is hopelessly uninformative.

@PeterNeumann11 @TuftsCEVR @DusetzinaS @jonathaneig This is a wonderful list. Love to see Kavalier and Clay on it.
