Earlier today I received this fully working pre-production sample of the MSXBOOK, which is actually my first MSX compatible machine.

Trying connect Pocket 8086 and Pocket 386 into TCP/IP network with KA9Q NOS

@anne_engineer I received a Pocket 386 today that was shipped in late June. The RTC problem has been fixed at the factory and the R38 is no longer soldered. If you received yours recently, it should have been similarly fixed.

@One_PC9821 I received their machine in the end of June batch, and this resistor was no longer pre-installed at the factory.

@TakiUdon_ I choose no change. To be honest, I dislike the political struggles surrounding names. Look at Book8088, a month is enough time to launch ver 2. For non-English communities, such as the Chinese market that produces it and has strong demand, Mr.Pi is a loud and memorable name.

@One_PC9821 DOSBox for self-extract files is convenient way, mounted folders can access directly from Win10. 86Box is more accurate platform with emulated Ali M6117 SBCs and 1995 Socket 7 AMI BIOS has similar features/settings with Pocket 386, which could be used for cross-reference.

@One_PC9821 @drachen6jp Considering it stops at IBM1S506, I still strongly suspect LBA incompatibility. Try a card <= 512MB, or manually setting the CHS parameters. I encountered a similar situation with early versions of Linux and LILO

@GakuSakuragaoka AdLib uses I/O port 388h but SB use 220h, some games check the BLASTER enviroment variable so SET BLASTER=A388 may work. Also use MIDIto to redirect FM I/O ports might help

@RDKLInc They're being bought by Chinese collectors, search for bilibili, you'll see a surge of retro-gaming video content from China after 2020. It's much easier to fix these machines because they have cheaper components market and reading Japanese isn't hard for the Chinese.

I got OS X 10.0 running on KVM-PR (para)virtuallized OSX on PS3 Linux, on 5.8.18-t2 kernel, and redribbon userland.

RetroTester/Zhblue confirmed Book8088/Pocket386's ISA expansion board can also use as a regular ISA backplane with different ISA industrial SBCs. Which makes it the most affordable way to build a compact desktop DOS PC.

@Foone Its COM/LPT port is usually used for mouse/printer. Which build a functional word processor system(WPS) back in time. Both ports were IBM PC compatible, LPT port also works with Laplink cable and mount a PC hard drive, I forget if there was a proper terminal emulation.

@Foone In China, the Famicom has the same status as the ZX Spectrum in the former Soviet Union countries, which were greatly enhanced to use as affordable home computers, the SB2000 is one of the latest and most powerful models, which was developed in 1998.
