I can't believe the daily briefing has ceased. This was the only line of communication from the government to Headteachers. How are we going to know what is expected of us in schools the next morning if we can't find out each evening at the same time as Joe Public?

Seeing a few tweets about returning to Term 3 When did this become a thing, six terms in an academic year? In my head, there are 3 terms, split into 6 half terms. Each full term split by a 'half term' holiday in Oct, Feb and May. Surely it is now Term 2 - the Spring Term.

I didn't manage a weekly shop at the weekend. I went to Tesco this evening. I really didn't want to. Halfway round, a parent of a student stopped me, apologised for interrupting my evening and thanked me and my staff for everything. I nearly burst into tears. I'm glad I went.

Can't say I was jealous of those that went back to school last Tuesday, whilst I still had a week of Easter hols left. But today, I am a little envious that they have a week of the summer term under their belt. Start of term dread and anxiety levels are high today!

195 term days in a school year. Schools 'closed' for 10 term weeks. 3 have been 4 day weeks. Schools have been 'closed' for 47 days. 47 days is approx. 1/4 of a year. 47 days is 1/58 of a school career lasting 14 yrs (yrs R to 13). 47/2730 days.

@Thinkingschool2 1265 is not contracted hours. It is the number of 'directable' hours. That is, the number of hours a Headteacher can require a teacher to be doing a specific task, at a specific time, in a specific place. Beyond that their wage also covers hours required to perform the job.

This evening, amongst the mania of the end of term and Christmas across our 8 schools, I will attend my son's school as Dad and watch him perform as Sven in Frozen the Musical. I am nervous for him...but so excited to go and watch him.
