It has been 22 years since the Columbine massacre, and the only solution America has come up with to respond to school shootings is to keep practicing what to do during school shootings.
Absolutely disgraceful.
It’s official, my school district will be fully open in August with the following guidelines:
• 24+ students in each class
• Face masks are optional
• Temperature checks will be done at home
Basically we’re pretending Covid doesn’t exist because that’s what the parents want.
Yesterday my 18-year-old niece said,
“Trump can ban TikTok all he wants, but that’s not going to stop us from doing all we can to destroy his campaign and make fun of his tiny little ego. He’s completely underestimating my generation.”
I’m so proud of my little activist!
Teachers in Russia have been ordered to teach that the Ukraine invasion is 'a special peacekeeping mission' and that NATO poses a danger to the Kremlin.
Prohibiting teachers from telling the truth. Gee, where have I heard that before?
This is how I explained the Relief Package to my 8-year-old...
I loaned $700 to my friend, and then Covid hit. I lost my job and now I can’t pay rent. I ask her if I can get some of that money back, but she says she can only give me $5 because she needs the rest to buy a yacht.
With all due respect, telling us to “put aside the partisanship and the rhetoric designed to demonize one another” is like telling the victim of an abusive relationship to just get over it and move on.
Justice first... then we’ll talk.
I just got an earful from a red hat wearing MAGA because I wore my
#BlackLivesMatter
shirt and a mask to the store.
Will I do it again?
Why yes.... yes I will. 😉
So NOW Dr. Birx says we should have locked down like Italy. Whelp.... it’s a little fucking late for that. Too bad she didn’t have a spine six months ago.
Teachers go to college to study childhood development and learn how to teach, only to be told later how and what to teach by politicians who know nothing about teaching. The education system in this country would be much better if they just trusted us to be the experts.
If Betsy DeVos is correct and only .02% of school-aged students will die when they return to school, that means we will be planning funerals for approximately 14,700 children.
Texas teachers are now being asked to tattle on each other for teaching the facts about our nation’s history.
I’m not in Texas, but I’ll just go ahead and tattle on myself right now because I am proud to teach the truth.
Meet our new hero, Alexis Toon. 🤣
According to Alexis, “for some unknown reason” she was asked to participate in a town hall Q&A, so she took the opportunity and ran with it.
Thank you, Alexis 🥂
The people that told Greta Thunberg to be quiet and then questioned how her parents could allow her to act like that are the same ones that are calling Kyle Rittenhouse a hero.
I formally invite any parent that is fighting for in-person school to come in and help me set up my classroom for social distancing this year. I would also like them to help plan my mask and sanitizing lessons, as well as stand outside the bathrooms and clean after each student.
Today I drove 200 miles to deliver groceries to my dad and stepmom. They both have cancer and I refuse to let them shop if I can help it.
When I went to the store there were maybe a total of 9 people with masks on. Out of a LOT.
I really hate people today.
A student came to me after seeing another student earn a reward for finally following directions in music class and said, “Sometimes it feels like when you’re always good, you need to try a lot harder to get noticed at school.”
I will never forget this. And I promise to notice.
I’m reading comments that Trump is banning TikTok because he’s trying to protect our children.
If he was really trying to protect our children he would have stricter gun laws, ban AR-15’s, keep schools closed until we have control of the virus, and not keep babies in cages.
307 kids in Texas-based day cares have tested positive for COVID-19, and the cases are only increasing.
Don’t be fooled. Children are getting sick, too.
I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty pissed off tonight. We are 12 days in and classrooms are quarantining left and right.
Oh, and administrators are keeping us in the dark about contact tracing.
Children are getting sick. Teachers are getting sick. Close the damn schools already.
I was asked to make phone calls for the Biden campaign. Not sure I should. Tell me what you think...
Me: Hi. Are you voting for Biden?
Caller: No. I think I’ll vote 3rd Party.
Me: Well, you’re a fucking idiot then and you are wasting your vote and my time. 😂
A five-year-old was holding the door for me this afternoon, so I responded with, “Well thank you, sir!”
He looked at me confused, started giggling and said, “No one has ever called me that before! You’re so welcome you kind, beautiful lady!” 😂
I just love kids.😁
So-let’s talk about Joe. Did he say something kind of stupid? Yes. Did he tell everyone to drink bleach and shove lights up their asses? No. Does he put little brown kids in cages? No. Is he building a wall? No. Is he a white supremacist? No.
Will I vote for him? Fuck, YES!
The school board of a Virginia teacher who was shot by a student is trying to dismiss her $40 mil lawsuit by saying she should get workers comp, because apparently getting shot at work is an occupational hazard that teachers just have to live with.
My 7-year-old just said, “Mom, they keep trying to say they’re not racist and stuff, but just because they say that doesn’t mean it’s true.”
Mic drop. My work here is done.
She was never a teacher. She never visits schools. She attended private schools. Her children attended private schools.
And she is in charge of our public school system.
Last year I was worried about losing colleagues to Covid, but this year I am terrified of losing my students. This past week alone, over 243,000 children have tested positive in the US. The lack of health and safety measures in our schools is disgraceful.
Do better, America.
Yesterday one of my students with special needs spotted the word “dad” in a book. He started running around the room and jumping up and down, excitedly screaming, “That’s MY dad’s name!”
I can’t wait to see how he reacts when his own name pops up in next week’s math lessons. 💙
I’m curious to see how many packed churches we will have in Wisconsin this morning. 🤦🏼♀️
After all - they are not going to let something invisible, like a virus, control their lives.
You can’t have birth control.
You can’t have an abortion.
You need to send your children to school with a deadly virus.
Children are still in cages.
Our foster care system is a disaster.
Do you see where I’m going here...?
Trump is coming to Kenosha on Tuesday to survey the property damage.
He is not sure if he will have time to meet with the family of Jacob Blake.
This just says it all.
I should also mention that we were told to sanitize when we can. 😏
Which is code for, “We are not providing any more cleaning than what we already have available.”
If a student in my class tests positive for Covid, at the very least the entire class will need to quarantine for 14 days. Many districts have yet to answer whether or a teacher would be paid during a mandatory quarantine.
Most of the die hard MAGAs I know depend on their Social Security and Medicare, so I can’t wait to see how they manage to spin this and defend him. I always love a good “that’s not what he meant” story. 😏
MSNBC is discussing Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s horrific loss all while showing the Trump Covid parade on a split screen.
Please. Just. Stop. He doesn’t need the attention.
Republicans advocated for schools to reopen prematurely during Covid, citing children’s mental health as the primary concern. Now, these same people are trying to remove social-emotional learning from our classrooms.
This just proves, once again, that it was never about the kids.
If you think your children should be going back to school in the fall do me a favor...
Put a mask on them for 8 hours and make sure they stay 6 ft away from everyone in your house today. Then report back to me and let me know how that went.
The “pro-life” party has allowed 14 babies and one teacher to get murdered at school today—and now we begin another cycle of empty thoughts and meaningless prayers. At what point will this country take some goddamn action? My heart is broken.
Sometimes I imagine my students are coming to school with their backpacks filled with personal trauma instead of books, and it completely changes my perspective in terms of what they actually need from me as their teacher.
“Something that happened and continued to happen … which I never in my wildest dreams imagined it would happen, is people sent their known positive kids to school,” - Public Health Department Officer Kirsten Johnson
Umm... Every single teacher knew this would happen.
76% of the nation’s K-12 educators are women.
76% of the nation’s K-12 superintendents are men.
"Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn't be that women are the exception." — 👑RBG
I find it odd that some people will proudly wear ribbon pins, t-shirts, and rubber bracelets that support fighting various diseases and disabilities, yet they refuse to wear the one thing that actually could save a person’s life. 😷
There are currently 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S. 115,000 are still waiting to be placed for adoption.
But sure, let’s flood the system with even more innocent children. Never mind the incredible amount of trauma involved in the process.
Remember when Republicans didn’t even trust teachers enough to teach history? Now they trust us so much they want us to carry guns around all day so we can protect their kids from the assault rifles they refuse to ban.
Unlike some, my school was open today; therefore, I used this opportunity to teach my students all about
#IndigenousPeoplesDay
I am happy to say that my kiddos were beyond excited to go home and teach their parents all about it, too.
To all the teachers heading back to school this week please remember that it is absolutely acceptable to put yourself and your own families first. If you don’t feel safe, don’t go.
I find it disturbing that the superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools in Wisconsin makes $252,000 a year yet teachers need to buy paper and pencils for their students.
And hats, and mittens, and winter coats, and snacks, and...
The system is broken.
