Australian parliament is basically 150 Tim Walz clones

Lots of examples of this in the business world where government attempts to regulate result in the most powerful businesses accruing more power. Or where subsidies to old industries stifle the creation of new. Or in the housing system where tax codes favour property owners in what was designed to promote home ownership but now limits it. Compare to hospitals or schools or roads where government is mostly administering and distributing something available to everyone, and not discriminating so much, and usually does an OK job.

This is what I don’t get about investor AI craze! They get higher than software multiples without any of the good parts of the software business model. Capital intensive, real COGS, low margins, no moats. And the “selling picks and shovels” justification doesn’t even work because software-level multiples assume a renewal rate that won’t exist when the craze ends. Only justification is greater fool theory.

I imagine it still has an upward effect on prices though, if maybe a small one? Since houses are leveraged, a $25k cash contribution probably means the buyer can buy a $125-250K more expensive property. Housing prices have only gone one direction here so not sure Australia is the market to model.
