my dad does all the housework, shops for & cooks his dinner, washes his clothes, changes the bed weekly, towels twice weekly, and walks 45 mins x 2 to see my mum in hospital daily - at 92 he’s pretty amazing
Any one with students starting at York Uni or St John’s - if your child needs a home cooked meal, a jumper washed, a cuppa and a listening ear or bus fare etc - please give me a shout - I’m more than happy to help x
@dghodgson
justify yourself to who? The police who stop you purely because you’re white? The neighbours who don’t welcome you because you’re where and write go home whitey on your walls ? The job interviews you don’t get because your name is too white. Gosh yes i can see the struggle
a little update - at the ripe old age of 91 - Dad has moved up north to York - he’s moved into a lovely home walking distance from me and is settling. He misses mum desperately, we all do, but he’s doing really well, all things considered
After 20 yrs of single parenting, life has changed drastically with 2 of my children in London, adults leading busy lives. It’s hard starting again, especially as a single woman in my 50’s. I’ve just booked myself a holiday - my first on my own in many years
Sitting alone in the middle of Florence with a virgin Mojito and thinking how bloody fortunate I am to be able to do this, it’s been a long 20 yrs plus of separated parenting - working for myself & never knowing financial security - but my kids are all grown & i’m discovering me
My mum is in hospital needing a heart operation, my dad found her slumped in bathroom on Sunday. My dad is home alone, he has aspergers & finds any change difficult. He’s 92 this week. No one warns you about this life stage
I want to tell you a bit about this girl of mine. She has anaphylaxis & has been hospitalised 40+ times. She’s suffered PTSD, racism, assault. Today she was awarded Merit in Post Grad level 7 Counselling & psychotherapy. She’s fearless, focused & determined & I’m so very proud

That’s usually because wives give up careers to support husbands, take care of the children and run the home and husbands lives
my mum went into hospital under 2 weeks ago, after being admitted with heart issues - since she’s had heart surgery and a pacemaker fitted at Barts. She’s 88 and recovering well. Our NHS is crippled, but the staff are amazing - thank you for giving my mum back some time
We live in a terraced house in the city, we had an ugly concrete yard, we’ve had it prettied up a bit :) It’s not beautiful like many of your lovely gardens but it’s good to have somewhere to sit
My son is enjoying his 18th - instead of presents he asked him friends to donate to an anti racist programme, so far they’ve donated over £600 - I’m proud of the younger generation
Some good news - during all the stress of ailing parents, I applied for a paid job, my first application in over 25yrs, I completed a detailed app form (dyslexic so challenging )- and sat a panel interview. I heard yesterday, I got the job !! It’s an addition to my own business.

No I think it’s unfair because she made her money before they met. She raised their child - why is he entitled to her money ?
I know it’s only
social media - but I came here initially as a stressed & lonely
single mum of 3 & found friendships, fun, advice, support, an ear, it made a huge difference to my life - i’ve made mistakes, got embroiled in too many dramas but have made so many real connections
Mum died in Feb, dad aged 92 had a stroke the same week, he’s been making slow progress physically - mentally deteriorating rapidly. I’ve moved him to be near me - this weekend he was smiling at the women’s football - lovely to see him animated
We laughed, we cried, we sang and we caught up with friends and family and shared stories about Mum. Dad held it together and the service was beautiful, we did her proud. Sleep well Mum x
Reposting a photo of my son, to remind people to be happy in their own skin, wear what you love, have fun and be bold. He’s 19 and an inspiration to me.
My dad feels seriously unwell, so he’s been to the shops for provisions for my mum, done the housework and packed a hospital bag. He’s going to call 111 when he’s all sorted he says. He’s almost 90.
I don’t know if you remember my mum going into hospital with a broken shoulder, well she contracted several infections and now unexpectedly is on end of life care. My dad has visited her daily for 10 weeks he’s 92. They’ve been married 70yrs. Wednesday he had a stroke. 1/2
Since graduating with a German/French & business degree my girl went back to Uni to study counselling & psychotherapy whilst holding down a full time job to pay for it. She’s just got her first job as a school Counsellor/Well being officer. Im so proud of her determination
i’m staying with my ex’s mum we’ve known each other 40yrs and have so much love for each other & my 3 kids are all coming here Sunday, my newly found sister texts daily & I have the loveliest friends - plus you lot on twitter are just the kindest, most supportive group Thank you

Plenty of people shed blood sweat and tears yet have nothing to show for it. Working hard doesn’t always equate to financial rewards - ask the care staff, nurses, cleaners etc
I volunteer at the local Methodist church youth club. I’m an atheist, single mum, pierced, tattooed Londoner. The woman who ran it was elderly, married, no children, conservative, sensible & prim. We really got on, even though poles apart. She died at the weekend. I’m sad ☹️
We have so many lovely twitter folk who are single and would like to date - keep an eye on my
timeline and if you like the look of anyone - maybe drop them a line, everyone taking part can agree to be kind & respectful to anyone being brave enough to approach them
my girl has started a new job, there are 2 mixed heritage girls who look nothing alike, one woman keeps calling them the same name and said well you look the same. Followed by another asking where she’s from & when she said York, said really? you don’t get many coloureds
in York
All the people saying they’re old and would have died soon anyway. This is my 89yr old dad, he briskly walks a minimum of 10k steps everyday, travels solo all over London, bowls, skates, and has a whole lot more living to do
My aunt died peacefully yesterday at 93. She was the most cherished woman I’ve ever know, loved for over 70yrs by her late husband & adored by her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. I’m reminiscing today & feel real joy at the happiness she brought to all of us.
@LizMahony2
no one starved ? my mum and her sister had osteoporosis caused by poor diet - they grew to 4ft 9 with size 2 shoes due to malnutrition - they lost teeth and had brittle nails.
i’ve been travelling back & forwards from Yorkshire to Essex to visit and be there for them both, no one tells you how hard this stage is. We’ve had a difficult relationship but there’s still love & care & it’s heartbreaking seeing dad so sad. Visiting day tmw. Send love please
Last yr I stopped to intervene after seeing a boy kicking a girl & calling her a fat bitch. She was crying and hurt. She said he’d asked her out and she had said no. Extra lights on the streets won’t help, starting earlier with lessons regarding respect & relationships might.
I’ve joined the dating apps, so if there’s anyone that is secretly wanting to make me their wife, make yourself known or forever hold your peace as I’m bound to have met my husband by Sunday - its how it works isn’t it ?
I grew up in a totally dysfunctional home & had low self esteem/body image - I avoided mirrors, hated my face & was disgusted by my fat. To see women proudly displaying their bodies in all shapes & sizes is bloody glorious - anyone not approving, scroll past & leave people be. ❤️
